This provision is good
Babies and children settle well into the childminder's care. They form a close and trusting relationship with her and this helps them feel safe and secure. Children demonstrate by their behaviour that they are happy and confident in the setting. The childminder works closely in partnership with parents and gathers information about children's development when they first start. She continues to exchange information about children's ongoing progress to aid continuity of learning between the setting and home. Children enjoy a wide range of good quality toys and play materials to support their learning. The childminder provides creative and imaginative resources to stimulate children's curiosity and motivate them to learn. The childminder reflects on her practice and the service she provides. She takes account of the views of parents and children when planning to make changes and improvements to her setting.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder sometimes interrupts children's play which means they cannot always follow their interests or play at their own pace. The childminder does not provide extensive opportunities for children to explore the natural environment.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector held a meeting with the childminder and spoke to children. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as suitability and qualifications, children's records and policies and procedures. The inspector took account of the views of parents and children by reading their written comments and feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of local safeguarding procedures. She regularly updates her safeguarding training and is very aware of her responsibilities to protect children in her care. The childminder continually strives to enhance her skills and knowledge by seeking relevant training opportunities. She closely monitors children's development. This helps her to swiftly identify any gaps in teaching and learning and take steps to improve them. The childminder shares her assessments of children's progress, such as the check for children aged between two and three years, with parents, other professionals and other settings that children attend. This helps to promote consistency in children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder understands how young children learn. She supports their developing communication and language well. She chats to them, encouraging them to try out new words. She asks questions relating to their interests and activities and responds to their gestures and babbling sounds. The childminder provides a good range of activities to promote children's development. She provides them with tools to practise their grip in preparation for early writing. The childminder chooses activities and books that link to children's interests. Children point to pictures in a book as the childminder tells them a story. The childminder tracks children's progress using approved guidance documentation. She agrees the next stage in children's development with their parents and they make good progress in their learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides children with a healthy diet and teaches them the importance of hygiene. She talks to children about their bodies and how exercise is good for their health. Children learn to make independent choices and do things for themselves. For example, young children enjoy discovering how things work. They enjoy squeezing paint from a bottle and feeling it on their hands. Children enjoy making dinosaur footprints with paint on paper and how the colours mix together. Building on the activity, the childminder provides a bowl of soapy water and children thoroughly enjoy washing their toys and brushes. The childminder takes children out every day. They walk to schools to collect older children and go to local play facilities where they can socialise. The childminder teaches children about differences and similarities in people and communities and they learn to respect and value others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and acquire the key skills they will need for starting school. They learn about counting, number, shape and colour. Children learn to make connections and comparisons as they recognise that toys look the same but some are bigger and smaller. They learn about letters and their sounds. Children learn to listen, take turns and share. They see pictures and words in their environment and learn that written words have a meaning.
