This provision is good
The childminder has taken effective steps to address the actions for improvement from the last inspection. She has accessed training to update her knowledge and understanding of safeguarding. As a result, she understands the procedures to follow should she have concerns about a child, including those who may be at risk from extreme views or behaviours. Children form secure and caring attachments to the childminder. They are happy and feel safe in the childminders care. For example, they seek out the childminder to share a book with them. The childminder plans interesting activities that capture children’s interest and supports their learning well. For example, children delight at using all their senses to explore the texture of cornflower and water. Parents speak highly of the service offered by the childminder. They value the service that the childminder offers and feel their children are safe in her care.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Opportunities for children to develop their early mathematical skills are less frequent than other opportunities. The systems to share information about children’s development with other childcare providers they may attend are not fully effective.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and support for children’s learning. The inspector talked to the childminder at convenient times during the inspection to assess how well she plans for children’s learning and keeps them safe. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder to evaluate how well she monitors children’s progress. The inspector looked at a sample of documents, including children’s records, safeguarding policies and procedures and training certificates. The inspector spoke to parents and took account of written feedback provide by parents for the inspection. The inspector looked at the areas of the home used for childminding and assessed how well the children are kept safe.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is motivated and has accessed a range of training opportunities to improve her practice. As a result, her understanding of how children learn has improved. She understands how to put in place the requirements of the early years foundation stage and how she can improve her practice. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder reviews her home to ensure it is safe for children. She shares information about children’s progress with their parents. However, the process for working together with other carers to ensure children make the best possible progress, is not yet in place.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children well. She uses her observations of children to plan activities that support their learning. For example, the childminder helps children learn about colours by adding food colouring to cornflower. Together, they guess what will happen as they mix the colours. They notice and comment on the changes as they share the materials. As a result, children are making good progress in their learning. The childminder supports children who have English as an additional language well. She repeats words back to children, helping them to practise forming new sounds and words. The childminder understands the importance of the progress check at the age of two years to identify children who may need extra help. She uses this effectively with parents to share how they can support their child’s learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder offers children encouragement and praise for their achievements. They are developing confidence in speaking as they name the animals in the story and learn to listen carefully. They show an interest in books and understand how to turn the pages and use pictures to tell the story. The childminder is a positive role model and is patient and attentive to children’s needs. Children are well behaved. They are respectful and understand the boundaries. For example, they know they need to pack away toys before getting more out. The childminder supports children’s health and physical development well. Children have regular outdoor play opportunities. They learn about the world around them through trips to local activity groups and places of interest.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children enjoy the opportunity to explore their environment. They are able to access the resources they want to play with independently. They develop their imagination and creativity as they use props to cook their own dinner on a pretend camp stove. Children show good levels of concentration and curiosity as they explore the marks the tyre of a wet toy car makes on a table. They enjoy their time with the childminder as they laugh and play together. All children, including those who speak English as an additional language, are ready for their next stage in learning.
