It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although the childminder provides writing materials, she does not extend support to encourage children to develop their pincer grip, to increase their physical skills.  The childminder misses opportunities in children's imaginative play, to increase interest and extend learning in further areas of development.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder researches and uses information well to further develop her knowledge and skills. For example, to support families and children with mental health issues to understand and promote good emotional well-being. The childminder has increased her teaching skills in early mathematics and phonics, to further support children's development. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear knowledge and awareness of the child protection procedures, to protect children from harm. She takes effective action to keep children safe and to minimise hazards. For instance, she is in the process of creating a designated playroom for children, to implement her plans for further development, and prevents children's access to the building work.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder monitors and supports children's communication and language development well. She accurately identifies any gaps in learning and takes effective steps to close these. For example, the childminder provides additional games to teach children letter sounds. The childminder interacts well during play, to talk with children and model the correct pronunciation of words. Children enjoy choosing songs and are keen to join in with the childminder. They listen to and follow instructions well, such as during action rhymes. Children take part in a variety of creative play activities. For instance, they enjoy the sensory experience of sticking materials onto a collage.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children respond well to the childminder and her effective behaviour management methods. For example, children demonstrate a good understanding of staying safe. They know that they have to 'stop, listen and think' before they cross the road with the childminder. Children benefit from their regular outings, such as to toddler groups, nature areas and local attractions. The childminder uses trips well to promote children's social skills and to further develop their understanding of the world. Outdoor play and physical exercise effectively supports children's health and well-being.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children feel safe and secure in the care of the childminder. They move around with confidence and make independent choices. For example, children go to say 'hello' to the childminder's husband and choose what they want to play with, such as the dolls. Children make good progress in their personal, social and emotional development. This supports them well in preparation for going to pre-school and school.
