This provision is good
The childminder establishes effective partnerships with other professionals and early years settings that children attend. This provides children with continuity and consistency in their care and learning and contributes to the good progress they make. The childminder regularly reflects and evaluates her practice well. She undertakes training and online research to develop her knowledge and skills further to meet children's specific needs. The childminder talks to children as they play and introduces new words to help build their vocabulary and understanding. Children have good opportunities to talk and share their ideas. Children establish strong bonds with the childminder. They demonstrate that they feel safe and secure in her care. Children freely choose from a wide range of resources inside and outside. They are becoming independent in their play and enjoy doing things for themselves.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder works well in partnership with parents, she does not gather a wide range of information from parents about what their children know and can do on entry to help establish children's starting points and support planning.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further
gather a wider range of information from parents about what their children already know and can do on entry to help establish children's starting points and support planning from the outset.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder attends training and completes online research to help keep her safeguarding knowledge up to date. She confidently fulfils her role to protect children from harm. She knows what to do should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder regularly reviews children's progress and promptly identifies any gaps in their development. She helps parents to access additional professional support for their children if needed. She works well with professionals to help children catch up in their learning and development. Parents are very positive about the childminder. They comment that their children are happy and safe in her care, and make good progress in their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The experienced childminder knows the children very well. She plans activities well to support children's individual stage of development and their emerging interests. She shares observations of children with parents, together with ideas of how they can support children's ongoing progress at home. Children are curious and keen to explore. They confidently ride bicycles and scooters outside. They are developing good concentration to achieve new skills, such as throwing balls through hoops. They show good muscle control as they thread shoelaces through holes in small discs. Children confidently identify animals and make links to favourite stories they share with the childminder.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and settled. The childminder provides a friendly and homely environment where children are valued and praised for their efforts and achievements. This helps them to develop good levels of self-esteem. Children behave well and learn how to keep themselves safe. For example, the childminder helps them understand how to climb the steps on the slide safely. Children learn about the wider community. They attend toddler groups and go to local parks with the childminder. They learn about different customs and festivals, such as Chinese New Year, Easter and Diwali. This helps them to learn about and respect each other's differences. Children develop healthy lifestyles and good hygiene routines. They know to wash their hands before eating food and that eating fruit and vegetables is good for their bodies.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress. They gain key skills and positive attitudes to support the next stage in their learning and the eventual move to school. Children enjoy looking at books and listening to stories. They have good opportunities to make marks using a variety of materials, such as paint and magnetic drawing boards. They are beginning to recognise numbers they see in the environment and can count to five. Children enjoy each other's company and peer friendships are emerging. They show respect for each other and for the environment.
