This provision is good
Children build strong bonds with the childminder who has a warm and nurturing personality. They show that they feel happy and content in her care. Children snuggle up to the childminder as they begin to feel tired and gently stroke her skin. The experienced childminder focuses well on her role. She regularly completes training to continue to enhance her knowledge and skills. Recent training has increased her understanding of providing children with natural objects to explore sound and rhythm. The childminder places a high priority on promoting children's communication and language skills. For instance, she introduces children to new words in context with activities and skilfully adjusts her speech according to children's level of understanding. Children grow in confidence and develop good social skills during outings in the community. For instance, they regularly visit the local market to say 'hello' to the

stallholders, and mix with larger groups of children as they attend organised groups with the childminder.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always provide children with optimum opportunities to explore a wide range of activities, in order to fully promote their development of expressive art and design using different types of media. The childminder does not always gather detailed enough information from parents about their child's prior learning, to sharply focus on children's precise learning needs from the outset.

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector interacted and spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided and reviewed the childminder's self-evaluation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of possible signs that could indicate that children are at risk of harm. She knows how to take swift action to protect children's welfare in the event of a child protection concern. The childminder regularly reflects on the service she provides, seeking the views of parents and children. This ensures that she acts effectively to address any areas for improvement. The childminder carefully reviews children's progress to swiftly address any gaps in their learning. She has successful partnerships with staff at the other settings that children attend, to fully support their continuity in learning. Parents compliment the childminder on the service she provides. They appreciate the ongoing detailed feedback about their children's progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children demonstrate that they are keen to learn and persevere at challenging tasks. For instance, children rotate pieces of a puzzle until they fit in the correct position. Children respond positively to the childminder's genuine praise. This motivates them to explore how toy cars react as they push them along on different textured surfaces. They work out, through trial and error, which size of car flows freely on the ramp of the toy garage. Children become engrossed in their play and concentrate for long periods, joining building bricks together to create a tower. They welcome the childminder's sensitive interaction in their play. The childminder provides children with good opportunities to learn about different cultures, particularly those that reflect the children who attend.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a positive role model and works in partnership with parents to agree specific behaviour management strategies. Children spontaneously use good manners. The childminder provides children with good opportunities to assess their own risks under her close supervision. For instance, they carefully climb onto low chairs and turn themselves around to sit on their bottom. The childminder is very considerate of maintaining children's dignity as she changes their nappy. Visits to the park and soft-play centres with the childminder help children to develop good physical skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning. They are independent individuals and carry out age-appropriate tasks. Children feed themselves and help the childminder to tidy away the toys that they have finished playing with. They demonstrate a keen interest in books. Children select their own and make the sounds of the different animals that they see on the pages. They gain the necessary skills needed, to help prepare them for their future learning at school.
