This provision is good
The childminder completes good assessments and summaries of children's progress and shares these regularly with parents. The information the childminder records enables her to identify any possible gaps in children's learning and plan appropriate interventions to support each child. As a result, children make good progress. The childminder has a consistent approach to managing behaviour. She regularly praises children, which contributes towards their good behaviour. Children show they feel safe and secure with the childminder through their play and interactions. The childminder has a warm and caring nature, supporting children's emotional well-being. Parents are encouraged to share information about what children have enjoyed at home. The childminder then uses this information to complement and extend the children's learning. The childminder takes necessary steps to keep children safe and well. For instance, she

assesses risk and successfully implements a very good range of policies and procedures.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always seek parents' views to help her improve practice. Other than mandatory training, such as safeguarding and first aid, the childminder has not targeted her professional development to enhance the quality of teaching and learning even further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector checked evidence of the suitability for all adults within the home, and discussed the childminder's self-evaluation and the impact that this has on the setting. The inspector spoke to the childminder about her practice, at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector viewed areas of the childminder's home used for childminding. The inspector looked at children's progress records and a range of documentation, including the childminder's policies and procedures. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder regularly checks for updates from the Local Safeguarding Children Board. She is aware of who to contact if she has concerns regarding a child's welfare. The childminder reviews her provision and demonstrates a clear commitment to improving her practice. She understands the importance of working in partnerships with other settings and she has established links with the local school, to further support children's learning and development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder understands the importance of gathering in-depth information from parents when a child first starts. This helps her to plan effectively for their age, interests and their next stage of learning. The childminder provides activities that motivate children to be excited about their learning. For example, the childminder engages in playful interaction with children as she supports them to manipulate dough and make shapes. This helps to support children's small-muscle skills. The childminder places a high priority on communication. She takes time to listen carefully to young children and extends their conversations effectively. Children have good opportunities to use their imagination during play and to express themselves. For example, they enjoy pretending to be doctors. The childminder uses these opportunities well to extend their learning, as she pretends to be the patient.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children receive a good range of freshly prepared, nutritious meals and snacks. This contributes significantly towards keeping them healthy. The childminder supports children's toilet training well and children learn to manage their personal care needs. The childminder encourages children to tidy away some of their toys once they have finished with them. This helps them to understand about keeping the environment safe and tidy. The childminder takes children to community groups and on outings in the local area. This helps to develop their confidence as they socialise with other children and adults. Children take part in a varied range of festivals throughout the year, helping them to recognise and value differences in themselves and others.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good, consistent progress towards the early learning goals. Children are independent and access resources from a wide selection available. They have opportunities to develop skills that will support them for their future learning and in readiness for school. For example, children learn to recognise colours and count items as they play.
