p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
The home received a full inspection on 6 September 2017. It has continued to operate well and provide excellent stability and care for the young people who currently live there.
p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Since the last inspection, a suitably qualified and experienced manager has been recruited. There was only a short period of time when the home did not have a manager. During this time, members of the senior management team provided leadership and management oversight.
p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Already, staff are benefiting from the stability a permanent manager provides. Supervision is now regular, and refresher training has taken place. The staff speak Interim inspection report children’s home: SC447768 2 positively of the new manager and look forward to the changes and improvements he plans. Already, a number of documents have been amended to encourage recording that is personalised to each child, and consideration is being given to how the home can be made more homely. In particular, this relates to reviewing the need for an office.
p.1
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Since the last inspection, there have been a few changes regarding which children live in the home. One young person, who has lived in the home for over two years, has continued to make very good progress. He now attends school regularly and is enjoying varied social and fun activities. Furthermore, his relationships with his family have grown from strength to strength, enabling him to enjoy time with family members, including overnight stays.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Managers and leaders are committed to ensuring that the home meets the needs of the children living there. They involve children in decisions about their futures. So much so that for one young person a positive move has taken place for him since the last inspection. By his own request, this young person is now living in another of the company’s homes, and he is reported to be doing well.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
The two young people who have moved into the home since the last inspection continue to settle. Engaging meaningfully with education has been a little difficult for these children. However, staff have worked hard to help them, providing encouragement and alternative learning opportunities.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Relationships between the children and the staff are very positive. They all enjoy spending time together, for example by going out and eating meals together. The staff create opportunities to plan, debate and discuss issues, meaning that children are involved and consulted with throughout the day. They replicate how a family group lives together, which helps the children learn how to negotiate and compromise.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
The settled and stable environment provides the children with a safe place in which to make sense of their worries and anxieties. Staff are suitably skilled, and are warm and compassionate towards the children. As a result, since the last inspection there have been no incidents of children going missing or needing to be restrained, and no serious incidents or complaints.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
Informative and well-structured independent visitor visits feed into the routine monitoring and reviewing systems in the home. An action plan outlining the future improvements provides sufficient evidence of the manager’s continued scrutiny and oversight of the home.
p.2
and young people since the most recent full inspection
While the manager is relatively new to this role, very good efforts made by him, the staff and members of the senior management team mean that no requirements or recommendations are made. There are areas the manager is aware of that require further development, but none that impact negatively on the children. Interim inspection report children’s home: SC447768 3

Information about this inspection
Inspectors have looked closely at the experiences and progress of children and young people. Inspectors considered the quality of work and the differences made to the lives of children and young people. They watched how professional staff work with children and young people and each other and discussed the effectiveness of help and care provided. Wherever possible, they talked to children and young people and their families. In addition, the inspectors have tried to understand what the children’s home knows about how well it is performing, how well it is doing and what difference it is making for the children and young people whom it is trying to help, protect and look after.
