p.1

This provision is good

 Leaders and managers display a strong commitment to drive improvement. They have successfully addressed actions raised at the last inspection. They follow rigorous procedures to ensure the suitability of all those who work with children or have regular contact with them.  Managers monitor staff performance and support them to continually improve their teaching practice. Staff access enriching professional development opportunities and share their new knowledge with others. They confidently use their ideas from training to enhance children's learning experiences.  Children in the pre-school room are highly confident and eager to learn. They engage well in a wide range of opportunities. Some children show advanced skills for their age, such as in their knowledge of letters and sounds.  Children build secure bonds with staff who respond well to their needs. Children settle in the nursery smoothly and quickly become familiar with routines.

p.1

This provision is good

 Children's good health is promoted well. They have plentiful opportunities to engage in physical activity. They eat healthily and maintain high levels of personal hygiene.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Sometimes, staff do not do enough to enhance the learning of the younger children and place more focus on extending older children's learning.  At times, when babies and toddlers share the same space, there are fewer opportunities for babies to follow their strong exploratory impulse and engage in sensory play.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make the most of opportunities to extend and enhance the learning of the younger children so that they have equally challenging experiences as the older children  provide inspiring and engaging opportunities for babies to access independently, which build on their interest to explore and investigate with their senses.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector spoke with staff and children during the inspection.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the nursery manager.  The inspector held a meeting with the nursery manager and provider. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of staff working in the nursery.  The inspector spoke to a number of parents during the inspection and took account of their views.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. Staff have a secure understanding of the signs that a child may be at risk of harm. They know how to report their concerns and to whom. The manager follows robust procedures to ensure all concerns are dealt with swiftly and decisively. The manager follows robust recruitment procedures to ensure only those suitable to work with children do so. She understands when she must notify Ofsted of changes, such as a change in management of the nursery. The manager and staff continually reflect on the provision and are committed to the ongoing development of the nursery. They have a successful improvement plan in place to secure continuous development. The manager and staff regularly review policies and procedures to ensure they are up to date and underpin the operation of the nursery.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Staff work effectively in partnership with parents. They update parents daily about children's achievements. Staff share assessments of children's progress with parents and support them to continue children's learning at home. Parents comment positively about the progress children make. Staff plan interesting activities for children to learn, to identify and order number. Children use different sized spoons to scoop numbered balls out of water. Staff introduce mathematical language relating to size, as children problem solve to identify the best spoons to use. Older children learn to recognise their name and sound out the letters. They have plentiful opportunities to write and draw. Younger children eagerly listen to stories. Staff engage them in the story as the encourage children to lift the flaps and name the animals that they see. Staff are enthusiastic and animated as they read to enhance children's interest and engagement.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children behave well throughout the day. Older children negotiate, share and take turns with minimal support from staff. They develop good friendships with their peers and welcome others into their play. Staff empower children to make choices, such as when they vote for their favourite activities. This helps children to know that their opinion is valued. Children are confident and have good levels of self-esteem. They welcome praise from staff and eagerly share their achievements with others. Staff are perceptive to younger children's changing needs, such as when they are tired or hungry. Children seek staff out for reassurance and they swiftly respond. Staff make eye contact with younger children as they feed them and talk softly to them. This soothes children and helps them to settle.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning and in some areas exceed expectations. Older children develop key skills in preparation for when they start school. They concentrate well and are eager to learn. They listen and respond to staff and are willing to have a go at new tasks. Younger children successfully move between rooms and adapt to their new surroundings. Children are prepared well for their future learning.
