p.1
It has the following strengths
Children make good developmental progress from their starting points. The childminder has a sound knowledge and understanding of learning and development guidance. She uses knowledge gained from completing a professional childcare qualification, to effectively challenge and extend children's development. The childminder encourages children to try things for themselves. For example, to use tools and sprinkle glitter while playing with modelling dough. She makes good use of children's interests to motivate them to learn. The childminder extends and challenges children's language development. Children thoroughly enjoy learning and using new words, including children who speak several languages at home. They listen attentively, and eagerly respond to the childminder's questions. For instance, while talking about what they see in picture cards. The childminder works effectively in partnership with parents to provide children with

continuity of care. For example, she has involved children in making a 'good choices' poster, which some parents also use at home. Children say they need to use kind hands and share. Children are well behaved.

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has completed safeguarding training. She has a good knowledge and understanding of child protection procedures. She supervises children well at all times to keep them safe, such as when they use a raised garden playhouse to watch steam trains passing nearby. Since registration, the childminder has developed her teaching practice effectively. The childminder carefully checks and monitors children's progress. She works well with her co-childminder to effectively reduce gaps in children's learning and development. Since registration, the childminder has developed a flexible approach to activity planning and re-organised resources in the two playrooms. Children independently choose with what they want to play.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good knowledge of children's individual progress. She provides children with a varied range of activities that motivates them to learn and explore. For instance, children use their imagination while dressing up as firefighters and using toy tools to pretend to be builders. The childminder develops children's confidence to communicate. She encourages children to describe differences in how things feel. For example, they touch items with their bare feet, such as sponges, feathers, cotton wool and bark. The childminder develops children's pre-writing skills effectively. For instance, she encourages them to make marks while playing with shaving foam.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Overall, children are happy and settled. The childminder develops close emotional relationships with children. She is a positive role model and supports them to form friendships and develop good social skills. The childminder promotes children's good health effectively. Children play energetically outdoors. For instance, they sweep up fallen leaves, throw them in the air and run through them many times. The childminder supports children's understanding of how to keep themselves safe. The childminder and her co- childminder work together effectively with parents, to support all children to eat well. Children develop a good awareness of differences in society. For example, they listen to stories about Diwali, and enjoy making traditional pots using salt dough.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop the skills they need for starting school. They concentrate well while listening to stories and confidently count the items they see in the pictures. Children develop good independence. They hang up their coat after playing outdoors and attend to their personal care needs. Children develop good control of their movements. For example, they use sticks to hook plastic ducks and collect leaves and twigs in buckets.
