Inspection activities
The inspector checked the premises and reviewed the resources with the childminder. The inspector read parents' reviews and considered their feedback. The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with the children and discussed how she supports children's learning. The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation process with her. The inspector reviewed a sample of relevant documents, including safeguarding policies and procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has very good understanding of child protection procedures and the action she would need to take if concerned for a child's welfare. The childminder makes good use of information from other professionals and attends training courses to develop her skills and knowledge. She is proactive in seeking out training to support her professional development. For example, she has completed online courses for the early years foundation stage. The childminder works closely with parents to ensure the children's needs are met and to support learning at home. Parents are very happy with the nurturing environment the childminder provides.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's interests in their play and learning. She provides exciting activities that children show great enthusiasm for, such as the toy kitchen. Children investigate, explore, and play with real fruit and vegetables. The childminder provides appropriate resources that support children's developmental skills. For example, children make shakers out of plastic bottles and coloured rice. They enjoy shaking the bottles and listening to the sound of the rice. However, sometimes the childminder misses opportunities to further introduce new vocabulary and numbers into activities. The childminder provides open spaces where children can be physical and enjoy practising their walking. The childminder observes children and plans their next steps, taking parents' views into consideration. She ensures children are making good progress in their learning and development.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children happily and confidently seek out the childminder for support and attention. They behave very well and are encouraged to develop some independence skills. For example, at mealtimes, children feed themselves. They are encouraged to tidy up in the daily routine. Children gain very good social skills. They meet with other groups of children and adults, such as when they visit local toddler groups, other childminders, the local library, and in outings to the forest.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children develop the skills they need to support them with their next stage of learning. They learn to listen to each other, share toys and take turns. They develop their exploratory skills well, such as when they observe nature in the outside insect house or visit the local garden centre to see the small animals. They really enjoy outings around the local area, for example, regular walks to the nearby park to feed the ducks. Children learn about and celebrate many festivals, such as Christmas, Diwali and other important cultural events from around the world.
