and young people since the most recent full inspection

This home was judged good at the last full inspection. At the interim inspection, Ofsted judges that it has sustained effectiveness. The two children who live in this home have done so for three and four years. They are benefitting from having such stability, and living at this home has made a positive difference to their lives. There are plans in place for both children to move back home to live with their families. It is a credit to the manager and staff that such positive plans are in place, demonstrating how they have worked effectively with the placing authority in the best interests of children. The period since the full inspection in May 2017 has been a settled one. Both children have enjoyed an increasing amount of time at home with their families. Staff support these arrangements well, and are helping the children to understand the importance of sustaining positive relationships. Both children are also doing well at school, and staff

encourage them to work hard. For the older child, the staff have been instrumental in helping her to secure a college course for September, near to where she will be living. Outside school, the children enjoy a wide range of activities, and strong focus is placed on encouraging them to enjoy physical activities and lead healthy lifestyles. Inspection report children’s home: SC467704 2 Children’s behaviour continues to improve. Both children are given incentives, and respond well to these. Sanctions are very rarely used; instead, positive behaviour is acknowledged and rewarded. Serious incidents seldom occur, but when they do the manager and staff take appropriate actions in the child’s best interests. They work well with the child’s social worker and family to ensure that the child’s safety and needs are met. Since the full inspection, there has been one incident of a child being missing from home and one low-level physical restraint. Both of these are well recorded, and records

demonstrate that staff took appropriate action, followed up with good reflection. While there have been some changes in the staff team, the manager and three senior members of staff have remained in post. This has ensured that children always have access to staff they know well and who know them well, as a senior member of staff is always on duty. Recruitment processes are thorough and safe. One requirement and two recommendations were made at the full inspection. These have been satisfactorily addressed. The manager now ensures that children receive an independent interview when they return from being missing, staff receive face-to-face as well as e-learning training opportunities in safeguarding children, and a senior member of staff has completed a level three diploma in residential childcare. No further requirements or recommendations were identified at this inspection.
