This provision is good
Partnerships with parents are very well established. The childminder ensures that parents are kept very well informed about every aspect of their child's care and education. Parents are extremely positive and comment that children thrive and blossom at their own pace. The quality of teaching is good. The childminder provides a wide range of activities and resources that appeals to children's individual interests. Children are enthusiastic and motivated in their play. They make good progress from their starting points. Children receive good support for their social and emotional development. The childminder is caring and attends to their needs promptly. She forms affectionate relationships with children, and they develop the confidence to enjoy the activities on offer. They meet with other children on outings and extend their social skills well. The childminder identifies her strengths and any areas for development well, and

encourages parents to contribute to her self-assessment. She continually makes improvements, including providing fresh resources and flexibility in her practice.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder misses opportunities to extend some aspects of older children's understanding of mathematics. The new system for assessment is not accurate enough to fully reflect children's progress, and to support consistently high rates of progress.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

develop older children's understanding of all aspects of mathematics further embed the new system for observation and assessment, to reflect children's attainment and focus teaching incisively, to help children make consistently high rates of progress.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the premises. The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact on children's progress. She spoke with the childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector completed a joint observation of an activity with the childminder and held a discussion about children's learning. The inspector looked at various records and documentation, including evidence of the suitability of all adults within the home. The inspector took account of parents' views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a clear understanding of the procedures to follow should she have concerns for children's welfare and safety. She keeps up to date with current safeguarding guidance and implements effective procedures, to help protect children from harm. The childminder conducts regular and thorough checks on her home to eliminate risks. Since her last inspection, the childminder has continued to evaluate her practice and has addressed the previous recommendation effectively.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy playing with the childminder and respond well to her enthusiasm, as she joins in their play. For example, she demonstrates how to move toy cars in different ways and children experiment using their own ideas. The childminder interacts well with children. She provides a narrative as they play, introducing them to new words and repeating phrases back to them. This contributes to the good language and communication skills that children demonstrate. The childminder questions children well to find out what they already know, and continually extends their knowledge during conversations. Children show a real enjoyment of books. They choose books to look at independently or ask the childminder to read. They show an emerging understanding that print carries meaning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is very kind and caring, and enjoys the role she plays in children's lives. She ensures that all children know that they are valued and special. The childminder is a good role model and children behave well. She teaches children how to share, take turns and respect each other. Children learn about the similarities and differences between themselves and others. They regularly go on trips into the local community and visit local toddler groups where they mix with other children to develop their social skills. Children regularly enjoy fresh air and exercise. They enjoy the outdoor play space, where they can explore and investigate natural materials.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children grow in confidence as they move freely and choose what they want to play with. They have fun with their friends as they play imaginatively with small-world animals and move them around on the play mats. Children demonstrate their excitement as they use their fingers and various tools to make marks in play dough. They explore as they use their hands to manipulate the dough into different shapes. Children are becoming increasingly ready for their move on to school.
