This provision is good
The childminder continues to extend and develop her professional skills and expertise. For instance, she has used professional forums to support her to plan stimulating activities to help children make good progress in their learning. The childminder places a high priority on children's safety. For example, she completes safety assessments and takes appropriate steps to reduce all hazards in her setting and on outings. Her effective implementation of up-to-date policies, procedures and risk assessments helps her to ensure the safety of children in her care. Children behave well. The childminder is a good role model. They learn to share, take turns with toys and play harmoniously together. She offers children praise and encouragement, and they develop good levels of confidence and self-esteem. Children have many opportunities to visit local groups, libraries and places of interest locally with the childminder. This helps extend their knowledge and understanding of

the diverse lives, cultures and backgrounds of people in the community.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses opportunities to support children's developing understanding of capacity and volume, such as when they fill and empty containers in their play. The childminder is not always successful in gathering information from parents about what children can already do when they first start, to help her to plan activities and experiences from the outset.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children engaged in activities and the childminder's interaction with them. The inspector looked at a sample of documents, including children's learning records, risk assessments, and policies and procedures. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at convenient times during the inspection. The inspector and the childminder jointly considered the impact of teaching on children's learning. The inspector took into account the views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements and her responsibility to keep children safe from harm. She is confident in following procedures and knows whom to contact if she has a concern about a child's welfare. The childminder pays good attention to improving her service. For example, she has plans to further enhance opportunities for children's outdoor play experiences. The childminder tracks children's achievements closely to plan for what they need to learn next. This helps her identify any weaker areas in children's learning. The childminder knows how to seek help from other relevant professionals, if necessary, to ensure that all children make good progress. She works in effective partnerships with other settings children attend to share information about children's learning and development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes the children as they play and uses her assessments well to plan for children's future learning. She keeps parents regularly informed about their children's learning and development. For example, she shares her observations and gives parents consistent information on how they can support children's learning at home to enable children to continue to make good progress. The childminder plans stimulating experiences, such as coloured dried rice for children to explore using their senses. She helps young children to develop a good understanding of positional language. For example, as children play ball games, she introduces words such as 'high' and 'low'.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children form strong relationships with the welcoming childminder. They are very happy and settled in her home. Children enjoy being helpful, such as taking part in tidying away their resources when they have finished playing with them. The childminder provides children with regular opportunities to develop their social skills and gain confidence with other groups of children. Children benefit from regular fresh air and exercise. For example, they enjoy outings to the local park, which help them to become familiar with their local community and give them good opportunities to practise their physical skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They gain skills that prepare them well for their next stage in learning and the eventual move to school. Young children engage in activities of their choosing for long periods. They are developing confidence in their communication skills and listen attentively. Children enjoy joining in with activities where they learn to respond rhythmically to music and relish joining in with nursery rhymes and actions. They develop a good understanding of some mathematical concepts, such as reciting number names in sequence.
