This provision is good

 The experienced manager is committed to providing children and families with the best possible early years experience.  The manager effectively evaluates the setting's strengths and areas for further development to help improve outcomes for children.  Children have developed secure bonds with the staff. Children and their families receive a warm welcome when they arrive at nursery and children benefit from a strong key- person system.  Staff are passionate about providing children with extensive learning opportunities outdoors. For example, children access a wide variety of opportunities to make marks outdoors and explore messy play.  Close partnership working with parents and other professionals ensures children receive the support they need quickly to help them achieve their full potential.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, staff do not fully consider the opportunities for all children's engagement during group activities.  On occasion, staff do not provide enough time for children to respond and improve their communication skills.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop further strategies for all children to become fully engaged in their learning during group times  strengthen the opportunities for children to have time to respond and maximise their communication skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector held a meeting with the nursery manager. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of staff working at the setting.  The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the nursery manager.  The inspector spoke to a number of parents during the inspection and took account of their views.  The inspector spoke with staff and children during the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff are highly trained in child protection procedures and know what to do should they have any concerns about children's welfare. The manager deploys staff well to support children. Staff supervisions and training ensure that the quality of teaching and learning is supported to develop further, overall. Recruitment, induction and supervision of staff are robust and used by the manager to ensure the ongoing suitability of staff. Additional training is provided to enable staff to meet the needs of all the children who attend. Detailed assessments are in place to identify and eliminate risks, alongside the monitoring of accidents and incidents within the setting. This supports practitioners in keeping children safe.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Parents are provided with regular feedback and guidance about how they can support their child's learning at home. Staff use picture prompts to support children to develop an understanding of what's happening now and next. Staff complete regular and precise observations and assessments of children's learning and development. This supports staff in planning accurate next steps for children's individual learning. Staff provide opportunities for older children to develop early mathematics skills. For example, during water play children confidently use mathematical language to describe quantities and volume.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Staff are positive role models for children and have clear and high expectations of children's behaviour. Children's efforts and good behaviour are praised and staff celebrate the children's achievements, helping to support children's sense of belonging within the setting. Staff have developed a stimulating learning environment indoors and outside. Practitioners keep children with allergies safe, they have robust procedures in place to ensure children's individual needs are met. Children are well supported as they move between rooms. Regular visits and feedback to parents, help children to feel secure and enable them to settle quickly. Children are encouraged to develop a good understanding of how to keep themselves safe, for example, older children talk about how to use equipment safely.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children demonstrate an interest in their learning and enjoy trying new experiences. For example, older children enjoy exploring the computer activities and work together to solve problems. Babies are inquisitive and delight as they explore the sensory equipment. Children, including those who speak English as an additional language, make good progress in their learning. Children are reaching expected developmental targets and for children who start lower than their peers, detailed support plans help them to catch up quickly.
