This provision is good
The childminder is warm and friendly. She provides a welcoming environment for children and supports their emotional well-being effectively. Children are very happy and settled. Regular observation and assessments of children's learning help the childminder to identify what children know, and what they need to learn next. She plans interesting and enjoyable activities to extend children's learning. Children make good progress. The childminder implements a range of policies and procedures to underpin her good practice. This contributes towards her maintaining a safe and secure environment for children. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills well. For example, she repeats simple words and phrases and asks children questions to extend their vocabulary and understanding. Children are confident communicators who enjoy sharing their personal experiences with the childminder.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not sharply focused her professional development, to deepen her knowledge of how children learn and improve her teaching even further. The childminder does not consistently share information about children's learning with other early years settings they attend to further support children's good progress.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

focus professional development, to further strengthen the quality of teaching and build an expert knowledge of how children learn strengthen partnerships with other settings that children attend, to provide a wider sharing of information that supports children's learning even more.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation and checked the suitability of the childminder and members of the home. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is fully aware of the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about the welfare of a child. The childminder attends all required training, which extends her knowledge, to some extent. She meets with other childminders, to reflect on her practice and share ideas for continuous improvement. The childminder communicates with parents daily. This helps the childminder to keep parents well informed about their child's care and learning. Parents are very happy with the service provided. They comment that their children never want to leave, and that they would wholeheartedly recommend her to others.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows children very well. She gains a range of information from parents when children join, to establish children's starting points. She uses this information and ongoing observations and assessments, to ensure she has a sound judgement of children's level of development. The childminder plans activities that follow children's interests. For example, after children enjoy collecting leaves, twigs and fir cones, the childminder suggests they use them to make a large picture. The childminder extends children's mathematical learning as they play. For example, she asks questions focused on colour, quantity and shape. The childminder encourages children to experiment and problem solve. For example, children attempt to build a train track over a slight ramp in the floor. When the track keeps collapsing, the childminder encourages children to try alternate methods and look for different pieces that will fit. Children persevere with determination,

until they successfully complete the task.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is a good role model and helps children learn to share and take turns. Children behave well. They form close bonds with the childminder and each other. The childminder encourages independence. For example, children enjoy taking responsibility for tidying away toys and resources when they have finished playing with them. The childminder helps children understand how to lead healthy lifestyles. For instance, children benefit from healthy meals and snacks. The childminder provides plenty of good opportunities for children to join in activities to develop their physical skills. She takes children on outings in the local community, such as visits to the local park, to enhance their understanding of the wider world.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children explore the environment with confidence and access resources independently, to further develop and extend their play. They are motivated and curious learners. Children learn a wide range of vocabulary, and communicate their needs and wants effectively. They happily engage in conversation with other children and adults, including some unfamiliar adults. Children acquire the valuable skills they need for the next stage of their learning, including the move on to school.
