This provision is good
The childminder is well organised. She assesses children's abilities and tracks their progress. She plans activities based on children's interests and their next steps in learning to support and prepare them for the move on to school. Children are encouraged to think through problems and decide how to do things for themselves. Children are inquisitive and develop good communication and language skills. The childminder engages children in meaningful conversations and introduces new words to them. They are also supported to develop an understanding of mathematical language. The childminder and children attend a number of local group activities to introduce children to larger numbers of people. She supports their social development by helping them learn to be kind to their friends and share her attention and toys. Children develop an understanding of how their actions may affect others and how to keep

themselves and others safe. Parents praise the childminder, they are very happy with her service and feel well informed about their child's progress. Parents whose children have special educational needs and/or disabilities are pleased with how the childminder has worked with themselves and other professionals to successfully support their development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is not currently accessing targeted professional development to support her in further improving her already good teaching skills to extend younger children's learning even further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

build even stronger skills and expert knowledge through a more focused ongoing programme of professional development to help develop practice to the highest level.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed and discussed an activity with the childminder. The inspector had discussions with the childminder and children. She looked at relevant documentation. The inspector read all the written testimonials sent in by parents and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her role and responsibilities in protecting children from harm. She has updated her knowledge on the latest guidance to ensure she is clear about a broad range of signs that may concern her. The childminder regularly reviews her risk assessments. She is aware that the age and personality of children may change the safety measures she needs to put in place. She ensures her dog is always supervised when near children. The childminder takes the views of parents and children into consideration when planning improvements to her service. She offers advice to parents on how they can further support their child's learning at home. Where children attend another provision she shares information on children's development with other providers to obtain a good understanding of children's progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has previously undertaken a childcare qualification and uses this knowledge when planning learning opportunities for children. She gets fully involved in children's play and encourages children to have a go and have confidence in their abilities. She asks questions and gets children to think about the consequences of their actions and how they can solve problems for themselves. She takes children's personalities and interests into account when planning activities. For example, those who enjoy being active and have an interest in transport, can be creative, make marks, use new complex words and name colours and shapes as they create a model of a car. She encourages younger children to be curious and start to develop an interest in books.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The home is welcoming and well equipped, children of all ages confidently access the toys and enjoy the wide range of activities that the childminder provides. She proactively prepares children emotionally and to be independent, for the move on to pre-school or school. The childminder ensures children develop a good understanding of healthy lifestyles by providing opportunities for regular exercise. Children are becoming more independent as they learn to put on their coats.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are enthusiastic learners, who are very keen to join in with activities, key skills they need for the move on to primary education. The older pre-school children are very articulate and confident. They ask questions to clarify their understanding of things the childminder may say and show great levels of maturity as they respond to the childminder's requests with kindness towards younger children. They are developing their imagination as they enjoy playing in the car made from a box and know they need to use car seats and seat belts to keep themselves safe. All children are making typical progress in all areas of learning and are working comfortably within the range of development for their age.
