This provision is good
The childminder has a good commitment to professional development. She is ambitious to learn more about different strategies that help her to support children's individual learning needs. Children develop warm, affectionate relationships with the childminder. They play confidently in her care and enjoy sharing their play experiences with her. The childminder is adept at encouraging children's speaking and listening skills. She engages them in songs, stories and lively conversations. Written feedback from parents shows they are very happy with the care their children receive. They praise the childminder for providing a safe environment where children feel at home. The childminder provides a well-balanced range of activities that children enjoy. She closely monitors their development and plans effectively for the next steps in their learning. Children develop the key skills they need for school.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not developed fully effective links with other settings that children attend, to strengthen the consistency of children's learning experiences. The childminder does not make the most of opportunities that arise to help children to use their own ideas and resolve problems they encounter in their play.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed a specific activity with the childminder to assess the quality of teaching and children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at convenient times during the inspection. The views of parents were taken into account through written feedback. The inspector observed children as they played and looked at the resources available to them. Essential documents were looked at, including evidence of the suitability of household members.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a confident understanding of the signs and symptoms of child abuse. She knows what to do if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder asks for the views of parents and children to help her to improve her provision. For example, based on children's comments, she has added new titles to her book collection. The childminder is conscientious about children's safety. She supervises them closely as they play. Children learn important road safety rules, such as walking on the inside of the footpath.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her good teaching skills to effectively interest children in the activities. She encourages them to persevere and concentrate with well-placed questions and comments. Children learn about mathematical concepts. For example, the childminder helps them to compare quantities of ice in different sized jugs. Babies explore using their senses as they pick up ice cubes and play with coloured water. Children have good opportunities to learn about technology. They play with electronic toys and older children take digital photographs of their activities. Resources are plentiful and well organised so children can choose their own activities. The childminder has regular discussions with parents to keep them informed of their children's achievements.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder spends time getting to know children when they first start. She collects detailed information from parents to help her to understand children's interests and routines. This helps her to provide the emotional support that young children need. The childminder encourages children to undertake practical tasks independently, such as putting on their shoes and coats. She praises them for sharing their toys and being kind to younger children. Children develop their understanding of diversity as, for example, they learn about festivals and special events from around the world.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They develop competent levels of independence in readiness for school. Older children understand the importance of good hygiene and independently wash their hands before cutting up fruit for snack. Children develop their early writing skills as, for example, they make marks with chalks. Energetic activities, such as dancing, help children to develop their strength and muscle control.
