This provision is good
The childminder develops good relationships with other providers, including the local school. This helps to make sure there is continuity and consistency in all children's learning and development. Outcomes for children are good. The childminder effectively includes parents and their children in the self-evaluation of her provision. This helps to identify targets for continuous improvement so that the provision benefits all children who attend. The childminder demonstrates high levels of warmth and care with all children. This helps to foster strong emotional attachments and helps children to settle quickly. The childminder engages children in activities that help them to learn about similarities and differences between themselves and others in the wider world. This helps to foster children's empathy for others. This, along with regular praise, fosters children's positive behaviour.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder provides parents with verbal feedback about their child each day. However, opportunities to increase the information provided to help them better support their child's learning at home are not maximised. The childminder does not always seek the highest possible level of detail from every parent about what their child already knows and can do when their children first start.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection and took account of the views of parents through the written feedback they provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder regularly updates her child protection knowledge. She knows what to do and who to contact in the event of any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder checks all indoor and outdoor areas used by the children. She supervises children closely throughout the day. This helps to keep children safe. The childminder continually monitors the educational programmes. This helps to ensure all children progress well in their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder takes children on a range of outings to places of interest. For instance, children enjoy regular walks through the local forest, where they look and listen out for wildlife. Children take tree rubbings and have fun as they jump in and out of puddles. They collect twigs to take back to make their own creations. The childminder reads stories to children about twig people that live in the forest. Children are enthused and use wool and tape to tie their own twigs together as they make their own twig people. During such activities, the childminder uses a range of questioning techniques to encourage children to think about shapes, colours and position. She also introduces new words to extend children's growing vocabulary. The childminder provides lots of opportunities for children to become aware of numbers. For instance, she plays alongside children as they engage in simple board games. The childminder encourages children to think and solve their own

problems, such as matching pairs. The childminder effectively fosters children's learning across all areas of their development during planned and spontaneous activities.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder makes sure that children's meals and snacks are healthy and well balanced. She helps children to explore healthy eating through topics and displays. Children take risks in their play as they develop their physical skills at the local parks. They climb, balance, play ball games and run around in the fresh air. This helps children to develop their growing understanding about a healthy lifestyle.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are progressing well. They develop their confidence and make new friends as they attend local toddler groups. Children demonstrate their growing independence as they have a go at putting their own coats and shoes on. They make decisions about where they want to play and what they want to play with. This helps children to become ready for the next phase in their learning, including their move to school. Children have lots of opportunities to make marks in preparation for early writing. For example, they use their hands, fingers, sponges and brushes to mix paints as they create their own artwork.
