comment that they are exceedingly happy with the care their children receive. They say that their children progress well and that the childminder is very professional and caring.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder asks children questions, she does not always give them enough time to think and respond. Occasionally, the childminder does not consider how children of different ages can be fully involved when taking part in planned activities together.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector viewed a focused activity and held discussions with the childminder about the children's progress and achievements. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector took account of the views of parents from their written responses to surveys organised by the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her role in keeping children safe and secure. The childminder carries out risk assessments of her home to ensure children remain safe. She is vigilant and ensures that children are always supervised when they play in the garden. The childminder supervises her assistant's practice effectively. Both the childminder and her assistant complete safeguarding training and hold a first-aid qualification. This helps to ensure that they have a good knowledge of the correct procedures to follow to protect children's health and welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children well and has high expectations for their learning. She assesses children's progress effectively and identifies areas where she needs to support their learning further. The childminder monitors the progress children make across all areas of their learning to help ensure that no child gets left behind. Overall, the childminder promotes children's communication and language skills well. She repeats words and sentences clearly and helps to develop their vocabulary. Children enjoy singing and rhyme time and enthusiastically choose what they want to sing. They learn new words quickly and are eager to use them. Children are creative as they use a wide variety of art resources and enjoy opportunities to explore tactile and sensory materials.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder creates a safe and happy environment where children flourish and grow into confident and independent individuals. The childminder has good procedures to follow to help children settle in and she follows babies' established routines from home. This has a positive impact on their sense of security. Children learn how to keep themselves safe as they use scissors with care and practise emergency evacuation procedures. The childminder promotes children's positive behaviour using words of praise and encouragement. Children are polite and have very good table manners. They play games that encourage them to share and take turns and deepen their understanding of each other's feelings and emotions. Children also learn to respect and understand other people's similarities and differences in the wider world. Children learn about different festivals and enjoy interesting outings in the local community.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are making good progress, including those who speak English as an additional language. Babies are alert and keen to investigate the toys. Older children show good levels of concentration and persevere to develop new skills. They develop good levels of independence and are determined to do things for themselves. Children show an early interest in books and reading. They learn about different shapes and colours and count confidently during play. Children are well prepared for their next stage in learning, including their eventual move on to nursery or school.
