This provision is good

 The childminder has made significant improvements to her practice since her last inspection. She has ensured all risks identified have been removed or minimised, which helps children access a safe environment while in her care.  The childminder has built strong partnerships with parents. She regularly shares updates about children's progress and achievements with them. The childminder provides ideas that parents can use at home to further extend their children's development.  Children's language development is fully promoted by the childminder. She talks to them about what they are doing and repeats words back to them to help build their increasing vocabulary.  The childminder provides a wealth of opportunities for children to develop their physical skills as they explore their local area. They delight in walks to the local train station to watch the slow and fast trains. Children enjoy walks to the shops, library and local

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always give children time to explore their own ideas during activities.  Children are not always given enough opportunities to extend and develop their independence.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide children with the time to explore their own ideas during their chosen activities  provide children with more opportunities to do tasks for themselves, to help develop their independence.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The childminder completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.  The inspector took account of the views of parents through reading written feedback provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding about the signs and symptoms of abuse. She knows the procedures to follow and who to contact with any such concerns. The childminder makes good use of opportunities for training to help support her continuing professional development and good outcomes for children. She frequently evaluates her practice. The childminder incorporates the important views of parents and children into her plans for improvements. She evaluates the assessments of children's learning and development and provides targeted support when needed to help children make continued good progress.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder gathers information from parents about what children are able to do when they first start. She uses this information along with her own assessments and observations when assessing children's starting points and next steps in learning. Children's mathematical development is supported by the childminder. For example, she supports them in recognising numbers on front doors as they explore their local area. Children delight in developing their imaginative skills, such as when they add play dough to the train track and pretend it is a snow drift. They eagerly join in with the actions to their favourite songs.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children behave well and the childminder provides clear explanations that support their understanding. The childminder supports children in learning the skills of sharing and taking turns. She promotes good hygiene practices and explains to children about washing away the germs from their hands before mealtimes. Children take part in activities about different festivals. This helps promote their understanding of the world they live in. The childminder raises children's self-esteem through frequent praise and encouragement. Children are very happy and settled in the childminder's care. They quickly form close bonds with her.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are eager to learn and happily explore the wide range of activities available. They develop their small-muscle skills as they roll and create shapes from play dough. Children eagerly identify a triangle and circle. They make good progress in their learning. Children quickly develop the skills needed for their next stage in learning and the move on to school.
