This provision is good
The childminder is organised and hard-working. She continually reflects on the service she provides to develop and improve. She has recently completed an extensive refurbishment of the outdoor area. Children have plenty of opportunities to develop their physical skills on swings, slides and bicycles. The childminder works well in partnership with her co-childminder. They are a good team and complement each other well. They have regular discussions about children's learning and development to ensure that they make good progress. Parents are complimentary about the childminder. They praise the homely environment that she provides and say that she is kind and caring towards children. Children form strong attachments to the childminder. They are confident to come to her for reassurance when they are tired or feeling shy. The childminder gives children lots of praise and encouragement, supporting their emotional development effectively.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make best possible use of the information gained from monitoring children's progress. She sometimes does not focus her teaching precisely on emerging gaps in children's learning so that they close even more rapidly. Occasionally, the childminder does not make the most of opportunities to extend children's learning and challenge them to the highest possible level during their play.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector jointly evaluated an activity with the childminder. The inspector took account of written feedback provided by parents. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at policies and procedures and sampled children's records. She looked at the evidence of the suitability of adults living and working in the house.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements of the early years foundation stage. She is ambitious and has a clear vision for the continued success and development of her setting. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the possible signs and symptoms of abuse and is confident to make a referral if she has concerns about a child. The childminder sometimes works with an assistant. She supervises her assistant's practice appropriately. She ensures that she completes regular training in safeguarding and first aid. The childminder provides a safe and secure environment for children. She uses risk assessments to minimise any hazards to children's safety effectively.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is well qualified. She uses her good knowledge about how children learn to provide a range of activities and resources across all areas of learning. Children enjoy building a train track together. The childminder encourages them to work collaboratively as a team and they take turns to locate and fix together the pieces of the track. The childminder sits on the floor with children and interacts with them while they play. She supports children's communication and language effectively. She talks to them as they play, describing what they do. Children listen and repeat words to increase their range of vocabulary. The childminder has developed good partnership working with parents. She shares information with them about children's learning and development. Parents comment positively about the care, learning and support they and their children receive.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children feel at home with the childminder. They settle quickly into the bright and well- resourced playroom and happily select toys of their choice. The childminder displays children's artwork around the house and they enjoy pointing out the pictures they have created. Children behave well. They share resources and show kindness and consideration towards each other. The childminder promotes children's social skills well. They regularly visit local groups and places of interest where they benefit from the opportunities to meet others and learn about the world around them. The childminder provides children with a range of healthy snacks and meals which supports a healthy lifestyle.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress from their starting points in learning. They develop a range of skills to support their future learning and are well prepared for school. Children are sociable and outgoing. They talk confidently about their own experiences and family life. Children are independent and understand good health and hygiene routines.
