This provision is good

 The childminder works in close partnership with parents, overall. She regularly shares children's assessments of learning with them. The childminder provides ideas for activities that parents can use at home to further support their children's learning.  Children settle very quickly into the childminder's care. They are provided with settling- in sessions that meet their individual needs. Children quickly become confident and demonstrate they feel safe.  The childminder promotes children's speech and language development well. She talks to them about what they are doing and repeats words back to them to help support their pronunciation.  Children enjoy a wealth of activities outdoors. They delight in playing on equipment in the local parks and riding on push-along bicycles. This helps develop their physical skills.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not provide the youngest children with enough highly challenging learning opportunities to help them to make excellent progress.  The childminder does not fully seek information from parents about what children already know and can do when they first start.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide an even higher level of challenge in activities to inspire younger children to excel in their learning  seek more initial information from parents about what children already know and can do when they start at the setting.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection.  The inspector took account of the views of parents through reading written feedback provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has developed a good understanding about the signs and symptoms of abuse. She knows the procedures to follow and whom to contact with any such concerns. The childminder regularly evaluates children's progress and provides additional support where needed to enable children to make good progress. She makes good use of opportunities for professional development and training to extend and strengthen her own skills and learning. The childminder frequently evaluates her practice. She gathers the important views of parents and children, and incorporates their ideas into her plans for developments.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder completes assessments and observations of children's development, which help her to identify and plan for their next steps in learning. The childminder supports children's imaginative skills. For example, she encourages them to make pretend meals and wash up as they explore the equipment in the play kitchen. The childminder talks to children about what is happening in stories and asks them to find different animals in the book. Children's mathematical development is encouraged by the childminder, such as when she counts the number of times they push down the level to make the water flow into the pretend sink.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children behave well. The childminder provides clear explanations and consistent messages that support their understanding. She supports children to learn about sharing and taking turns. Children develop their independence from an early age. They tidy away toys when they have finished playing and competently feed themselves. The childminder encourages good manners and promotes good hygiene practices. She talks to children about washing the germs away as they clean their hands at mealtimes. The childminder talks to children about the food they eat, which helps develop their understanding about food that is healthy for them.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children engage in activities and enjoy exploring the wide range of toys available. They delight in creating their own pictures. This helps to develop and support their early writing skills. Children make good progress in their learning. They quickly learn the skills needed ready for their next stage in learning and for their move on to school.
