This provision is good
The childminder has an efficient recruitment and vetting system for checking the suitably of assistants, to safeguard the needs of the children in her care. The childminder carries out regular observations which she uses effectively to plan for the next steps in children learning, to extend their abilities. Children make good progress from when they first start. All children settle quickly because the childminder supports their emotional well-being and meets their care needs effectively. The childminder and her co-childminder use self-evaluation effectively to identify their strengths and target areas for development. They welcome parents' views and, as a result of some requests, plan to increase opportunities to take children on trips beyond the immediate environment.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder misses opportunities to help children learn about mathematical concepts, such as adding and taking away to change quantities, to further develop their problem-solving skills. Although the childminder promotes children's safety, at times, she does not make the most of situations to help children understand how to keep themselves safe.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

extend the range of opportunities to help older children develop problem-solving skills, to help increase their own mathematical ideas and abilities use all opportunities to strengthen children's awareness of their own personal safety.

Inspection activities
The inspector held discussions with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the co-childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector observed the childminder and her co-childminder's interactions with the children, indoors and outdoors, and discussed with the childminder the impact on children's learning. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including assessment reports, staff records, and safeguarding policies and procedures. The inspector read the parents' questionnaires and took an account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly carries out risk assessments indoors and before going on trips, to reduce potential hazards to children. The childminder has a secure understanding of child protection matters, including how to proceed if a child is at risk of harm and to notify Ofsted about significant events. The childminder and her co- childminder have completed safeguarding training updates. They are keen to extend their knowledge and keep up to date with any changes in childcare practices to improve their skills further. The childminder understands the requirement to deploy assistants, maintain ratios and closely supervise children throughout the day to promote their safety. The childminder works well with parents. She keeps them well informed about their child's care and encourages them to contribute towards their child's ongoing assessments. The childminder shares her policies and procedures with assistants and guides them in their

practice. She knows how to manage and keep a record of complaints.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder asks parents to contribute to an initial assessment of their child, which she uses to build on what children already know. The childminder provides suitable activities to stimulate children's interests in the local environment and build on their knowledge of other places. For example, children enjoy learning about the celebrations of 'Burns Night' in Scotland. The childminder and her co-childminder have a consistent approach to managing children's behaviour. For example, they use simple rules that help children learn to understand right from wrong, including how to respect each other. The childminder regularly exchanges information with staff at the other settings children attend to exchange ideas and ensure continuity of learning for the children.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children develop close relationships with the childminder, her co-childminder and other children. Older children begin to show care and concern for the younger children. The childminder supports children to develop an understanding of the importance of good hygiene procedures and to manage their personal needs. She offers children a range of nutritious meals. She also provides opportunities for children to experience some dishes from different cultures to broaden their taste in food. Children have daily opportunities to access the outdoor environment. They move around freely and use equipment to challenge their physical skills. For example, young children learn to kick a ball and older children show increasing control when playing with ride-on toys.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and are well prepared for the next stages in their learning and for school. Their communication and language skills are developing well. Children are keen to do things for themselves. For example, young children show a desire to help with putting toys away. Older children learn to pour their drinks and serve their own food. Older children can accurately count to 20 and can recognise some numbers.
