This provision is good
Children have developed close relationships with the childminder and her family. They invite the childminder and her husband to take part in activities. Children turn to the childminder for comfort when needed. They show that they feel safe, happy and settled in the childminder's care. Children are provided with plenty of opportunities to learn about mathematics. They enjoy learning about numbers as part of activities and are able to successfully identify and name different shapes. All children make good progress from their starting points. Children enjoy a wide range of trips. These include visits to local amenities, such as soft play, the park, shops and a farm. Parents' feedback demonstrates their high level of satisfaction with the service provided by the childminder. They talk about the close relationships that their children have formed with the childminder and say that they are happy in her care.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the most of her good relationships with parents to support them to complement and extend their children's learning at home. The childminder's training and professional development is not consistently focused on building specific skills to raise the quality of her teaching even further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living or working in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views and opinions of parents through feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows what to do if she has any concerns about children's well-being. She maintains her understanding by regularly attending child protection training. Children are supervised well, which helps to promote their welfare. Their understanding of how to keep safe is promoted through discussion. For example, children know that when the traffic lights are red, it means stop. Risk assessments carried out by the childminder help her to effectively identify potential hazards in her home. She takes appropriate action to minimise or remove these, which helps to promote children's well-being. The childminder reviews her ongoing practice. She values the opinions of children and their parents to help inform ongoing improvements.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children confidently make choices from a good range of toys and activities. Some of these help them to develop the small muscles in their hands that are needed for writing. Children have fun rolling out and manipulating pieces of coloured dough. They show good focus as they carefully match puzzle pieces by colour. Using accurate hand-to-eye coordination, children carefully slot the pieces together. The childminder successfully encourages children to take part in a wide range of conversations. They are keen to talk about what they see in pictures. They demonstrate a good understanding of the world as they correctly name a wide range of animals, such as elephants and frogs.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder's interaction with children is positive. She provides them with plenty of praise to acknowledge their achievements. This helps to build children's self-esteem and confidence as they explore and investigate activities. Children are encouraged well to develop good manners. For example, they are reminded to say 'please' and 'thank you' at appropriate times. Children are provided with gentle reminders to support their growing understanding of what is acceptable behaviour. They enjoy a good range of foods at mealtimes, including vegetables and pasta. The childminder holds regular discussions with parents about their children's ever-changing care needs. This helps to ensure that she can continue to meet them effectively. Children are developing self-help skills. They are able to manage their personal needs and are eager to help with dressing themselves.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning. They show confidence as they communicate with adults and are able to competently make their needs and wants understood. Children show good levels of concentration. They spend lengthy periods of time participating in activities that are of interest to them. Children are developing the important skills needed in preparation for their next stage in learning and their eventual move on to school.
