This provision is good
The childminder organises her setting very well and shows a strong commitment to professional development to help improve outcomes for children. The childminder draws effectively on her teaching background and qualifications to provide meaningful learning experiences that engage children successfully overall. The childminder assesses children's progress carefully. She uses this information well to plan challenging activities. This helps children to make at least good progress in preparation for their next steps in learning and for school. Some children exceed expectations for their stages of development in some areas. The childminder has a good understanding of safeguarding procedures and supervises children well to help keep them safe. Children enjoy their time with the childminder and develop strong bonds with her. They learn successfully about behaviour expectations and the importance of safe and healthy

lifestyles. The childminder builds successful relationships with parents, carers and the staff at other settings that children attend. This encourages continuity in their care and learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not make the very best use of resources, objects and materials to further ignite the curiosity of the youngest children.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

extend opportunities for the youngest children to explore a wider range of resources, objects and materials to further ignite their curiosity in the world around them.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors. The inspector and the childminder observed and discussed an activity together. The inspector talked to the childminder at appropriate points throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at a range of relevant documentation, including evidence of the suitability of all those living and working in the household and written comments from parents. The inspector discussed self-evaluation with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her knowledge and understanding of child protection up to date and is clear about procedures to follow if she has concerns about children's welfare. She monitors the work of her assistant closely and provides clear guidance to support their good-quality practice. The childminder engages in effective professional development to improve her own knowledge and understanding of the youngest children. For example, recent training supports her to more effectively meet their needs and start to broaden their learning environment. The childminder evaluates her practice comprehensively and takes account of the views of parents and children to make improvements.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder cares for children from service families. She strives to involve parents as much as possible to keep them in touch with their children's learning. For example, the childminder helps children to write for a purpose and maintain close bonds with their parents. They enjoy creating letters and learning about the process for posting these overseas. The childminder knows children well and adapts activities to suit their individual needs. For example, she challenges the most able children to build on their mathematical understanding. They enjoy working out how to fold a letter to fit it into a post box. The childminder models language well as she narrates children's play, expands their vocabulary and supports their understanding of sounds and letters.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming and stimulating learning environment that captures children's curiosity for most of the time. She helps children to learn about good behaviour and how to play safely as she supports them to resolve conflicts calmly and effectively. The childminder provides a wide range of experiences for children to learn about people who are different from themselves. This helps them to develop a positive approach to diversity. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to become confident and independent, such as teaching them about effective hygiene and toileting skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children progress well and develop the key skills they need for starting school. They can cooperate readily, follow instructions and play well together. Children develop good communication skills and some children use language very confidently to express their ideas and thinking. Children use and build on their mathematical knowledge to solve problems, such as matching colours and considering if these are the 'same' or 'different'. They enjoy listening to stories and relating these to their own experiences. Children develop good control of their movements as they make marks with writing materials.
