This provision is good
The childminder works closely with parents to support children to settle into her setting. She encourages parents to visit with their child over an extended period of time. The childminder explains to parents how this helps her get to know the children while helping them become secure in her care. Children respond well to the childminder's caring and sensitive approach. Children are well behaved. The childminder's high expectations help older children learn to behave with kindness and care towards younger ones. The childminder makes good use of outings into the local community to expand children's experiences. She recognises the importance of children developing confidence in different social situations and how this contributes to helping prepare them for moving on to school. Children are curious and imaginative. They enjoy the childminder's involvement in their play and are confident to offer their own views and ideas.

It is not yet outstanding because:
Relationships with other settings children attend are not fully effective. The childminder does not regularly exchange detailed information to help strengthen continuity of approach to children's care and learning. The childminder does make the most of professional development opportunities to help her to continue to enhance her knowledge and skills.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and learning during activities indoors and outside and assessed the impact on children's learning. The inspector talked to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. They discussed how the activities provided supported children's learning and development. The inspector looked at a range of documentation and evidence of the suitability of household members. The inspector took account of the views of parents from their written feedback. She talked to children during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is vigilant about promoting children's safety and protecting them from harm. She provides simple age-appropriate explanations to help children learn safe practices. The childminder evaluates the service she provides to help identify ways to improve. For example, she is introducing a different format for children's diaries to provide more opportunities for parents to share information about children's achievements at home. Parents are complimentary about the care their children are provided, saying, 'She provides all the stimulation offered by a nursery but with endless attention and uninterrupted care'.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her knowledge and experience to accurately assess children's stage of development and target what they need to learn next. She knows the children in her care well and responds with sensitivity to their individual personalities. The childminder adapts her teaching accordingly to promote the good progress that all children make. The childminder interacts well with children during their play to help them explain their ideas and expand their vocabulary. She supports children's interests, such as in imaginative role play, providing a wide range of relevant resources and props for them to use inside and outdoors. The childminder helps younger children practise their developing physical skills. She responds with care and attention to their needs and wants, such as by recognising and describing what it is they are trying to do. The childminder makes good use of opportunities to extend children's interest in numbers.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder uses well-established routines to help children become confident in her care. She is careful to follow parents' wishes and children's routines from home. The childminder provides parents with detailed daily diaries to help keep them involved in their child's day. Her encouraging manner and use of meaningful praise supports children to develop a strong sense of pride in their own achievements. The childminder helps children develop tolerance and understanding of other people. For example, she talks to children about the lives of those that live in different countries. Children have many opportunities to learn about the benefits of fresh air and physical exercise.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are developing the key skills to promote the next stage of their learning and eventual move on to school. Babies are confident to explore the environment knowing the childminder is close by if needed. Older children are developing independence, such as attempting to put on their coat and boots. They demonstrate good mathematical skills for their age. They recognise numerals as they play and confidently recite the numbers one to 19. Older children know which number bus they need to catch when they go to toddler group.
