This provision is good

 The childminder has a clear understanding of how she intends to promote children's development and identify their learning needs through observations.  Partnerships with parents and other early years professionals are very good. The childminder maintains positive relationships and shares information consistently to ensure children are well cared for and their individual needs are met.  Children are emotionally secure and the childminder supports them well as they settle in. They form positive relationships that help develop their confidence and self- awareness. The environment is welcoming and children are highly valued as individuals.  All children make good progress from their starting points, including children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 On occasions, the childminder does not adapt planned activities to meet children's changing learning needs or new interests.  The childminder reflects well on her practice, however, she is not as highly effective in following up on her identified improvement plans.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 improve the identification of and planning for children's next steps in their learning more precisely  make better use of the self-evaluation process to identify and implement development plans to improve practice even more.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household.  The inspector took account of the views of parents from the written feedback provided.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder provides a caring and stimulating environment for children. She is aware of her roles and responsibilities in keeping children safe and can confidently recognise signs of harm. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has started to identify areas of development to help improve her provision. She is fully committed to the care and progress of children and works closely with other early years professionals to share information while widening her own knowledge. On occasions, the childminder works with an assistant, whom she skilfully supports to ensure her skills are up to date and effective for meeting children's needs. She regularly obtains new resources that relate to children's new interests or ideas they may have.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children's development and progress are shared consistently with parents. Parents' contributions about children's learning from home are used to help her plan. The childminder has a secure high level of knowledge about child development. Overall, she observes children and records their progress to identify any gaps in their learning and inform her future planning well. Children are motivated and curious. The childminder provides a broad range of resources that is suitable for the ages and development stages of the children. She encourages all children to engage with the resources.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder takes all reasonable steps to ensure children value and understand the differences between themselves and others. Children make their own rules to follow in the setting and are encouraged to resolve their own issues where suitable. The childminder models 'please' and 'thank you', so younger children begin to understand the importance of using good manners. Young children are emotionally secure and confident with a can- do attitude when accessing the environment. Their physical well-being is supported fully indoors and outdoors with a range of resources and planned activities. Parents are pleased with the experiences and opportunities that children take part in, such as groups where they dance and trips to the park.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are making good progress from their starting points and are fully supported in their development. Children learn about the importance of a healthy lifestyle. For example, they have a nutritious, balanced diet and are encouraged to try new foods during taster days. Children are happy and feel secure. All children are prepared well for the next stage in their learning or school.
