This provision is good

 The quality of the childminder's teaching is consistently good and she makes good use of high-quality interactions with children. She supports and guides children's learning based on their interests and what they need to learn next.  Children enjoy warm and affectionate relationships with the childminder. They seek her out for comfort and reassurance. Children are happy and settle quickly in her care.  The childminder motivates children to learn. Children are making particularly good progress in their language and communication. The childminder interacts well with children down at their eye level and provides good-quality commentary during their play.  The childminder builds positive and trusting relationships with parents. She regularly shares information with parents about their child's ongoing progress, which helps them to continue their child's learning at home.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently help young children to develop their early writing skills further.  The childminder does not fully support children's independence. For example, she does not encourage children to manage some tasks for themselves, such as getting a drink when they are thirsty.

The childminder completes risk assessments of her home, garden and outings to support children's safety. The childminder understands the importance of working in partnership with professionals and other settings that children attend. This helps to promote a consistent approach to children's learning and development. Self-evaluation and improvement plans include the views of parents. The childminder's capacity to improve and drive forward change is good. For example, she accesses relevant training opportunities and works closely with other childminders to share ideas and extend her knowledge.

p.3

She is able to swiftly identify any gaps in a child's learning or development and close these quickly. The childminder encourages children to follow their own ideas and try new things. For example, a young child tries to place a circular object into a round hole. The childminder encourages the child to move the object around in a variety of ways to help them decide if it will work as well as when using the ball. She gives children plenty of praise and encouragement which helps them to be inquisitive.
