This provision is good
The childminder completes regular observations and assessments of children's learning. She uses this information to plan activities and next steps. The childminder prepares and cooks healthy meals and snacks for the children. Parents are informed about what their children are eating on a wall chart and in a food diary. Children have opportunities to develop an understanding about healthy foods. Children demonstrate they are happy in this environment. They have a place for their belongings and are able to access resources in the childminder's home. This promotes independent choices. The childminder shares relevant information with preschools and other early years settings to support consistency in the children's learning. The childminder successfully engages with parents and encourages their involvement in their child's learning journey. She has an effective partnership with parents. They regularly exchange information about children's individual care needs and progress.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
On occasions, the childminder does not vocalise or model language to support children's good early speaking skills. The childminder does not consider ways to fully extend children's learning experiences, particularly by making them more challenging, to further improve their learning potential.

Inspection activities
The inspector looked at the areas of the setting that are used for childminding. The inspector completed an evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during the inspection and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector discussed self-evaluation, risk assessment and the childminder's policies and procedures. She checked evidence of the childminder's suitability, qualifications and training certificates. The inspector spoke to parents and considered their views of the childcare service provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a secure knowledge and understanding of keeping children safe in her care. She carries out risk assessments regularly in her home and garden to eliminate any potential hazards. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows how to identify and respond appropriately to any concerns she may have about the welfare of a child in her care. The childminder reflects well on her practice. She has good connections with other childminders and early years professionals to provide continuity of care and learning for children. For example, she has implemented a parent questionnaire for feedback after recent discussions.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The well-qualified childminder gets to know the children well and tailors learning around their individual interests. For example, she sets out the environment with toys and resources that she knows children like to play with. Young children use good imagination as they push cars in and out of the car garage, and pretend small characters are walking along the car park. Children are fascinated as they shake different bottles with sand, pasta and pebbles, making loud noises as they shake. The childminder stays close by to support them and promote learning. Young children follow their individual interest as they pull out draws and find musical instruments to make sounds with, supporting their creativity.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment in which children learn and develop skills. The childminder offers settling-in sessions for the children and families, for them to get to know the provision. Children demonstrate they are emotionally secure and have a close relationship with the childminder. For example, they hold out their arms to the childminder for cuddles. The childminder gives guidance as they carry out hygiene routines, for example, cleaning hands and faces before and after food. The childminder has rules in her home and encourages children to be kind, gentle and helpful. Children practise and explore their physical skills indoors. For example, they push the shopping trolley and collect items as they go. Children learn about the importance of drinking water, which is available in drinking cups at all times.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are independent learners. They freely access the varied range of resources. Young children are confident and inquisitive. Young children explore the environment with interest. Children investigate and slot shapes into the box, and are happy with their discovery. Young children use simple technological toys, pushing buttons to make music play. Children know how to use books and they turn pages independently. Young children are motivated and show determination to carry out self-care tasks, such as using spoons to feed themselves. Children make good progress; they are prepared well for future learning and the eventual move on to school.
