p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder has not kept up to date with all current safeguarding matters, including the 'Prevent' duty guidance, to fully protect children from harm. The childminder does not use her effective assessments of children's development to plan activities that consistently challenge and engage them, to help every child make good progress. The childminder does not routinely give babies enough attention or interaction. They often play alone without the support they need to help them develop good communication and language skills. The childminder does not use self-evaluation effectively to help her identify areas where improvement is needed.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Generally, the childminder forms positive relationships with the children and helps them to settle in quickly. She offers children reassuring cuddles when needed and promptly meets their care needs, such as enabling tired toddlers to sleep. The childminder uses plenty of mathematical language, such as number names, to effectively support the older children's understanding of counting.

make effective use of ongoing self-evaluation to identify any breaches of legal requirements and to target areas for future improvement.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's participation during adult-led activities and the childminder's interactions with them. The inspector evaluated the quality of teaching and learning during a planned activity. The inspector took account of the views of children on the day, and considered parents' written feedback. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's learning records, the childminder's training certificates, and policies and procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder does not have a suitable knowledge of wider safeguarding matters in relation to protecting children from extreme behaviours and views. However, she understands how to recognise the signs that a child's welfare is at risk and knows how to refer any concerns to the relevant authorities. The childminder provides a safe environment for children, such as by maintaining appropriate ratios and closing safety gates behind her to enable her to supervise children closely. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder makes some appropriate use of professional development opportunities. For example, through research, she has planned different activity ideas for babies, to support their exploration using their senses. However, her self-evaluation is not yet good enough to consistently outline the weaknesses in her practice and provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder does not consistently make good use of planned activities to successfully challenge all children and motivate them to learn. For example, when planting seeds with all children, she does not adapt the experience so that babies are interested and can join in. Babies sit and watch from their highchairs while she plants seeds for them, which does not fully support them to communicate and become curious and active learners. The childminder does not consider children's emerging interests, so older children choose not to join in with some adult-led activities and soon walk away. Toddlers and older children develop good communication skills. They use a broad vocabulary and copy the childminder's words and sounds. The childminder helps babies develop good balance and control, such as by holding their hands as they learn to walk. She ensures parents receive ongoing information about their children's care and experiences, to allow them to work

well with her to plan complementary learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
The childminder welcomes children warmly when they arrive and they are content in her care. However, she does not routinely interact with the babies and give them sufficient attention to help them make good progress, and they often spend time playing alone. Children learn to behave well and be kind to each other. The childminder consistently and patiently explains the reasons for the rules, to help them understand her expectations. For example, when children hurt their friends, she encourages them to think about how this might make others feel, which prompts them to apologise with cuddles. The childminder supplements children's good health, such as by providing nutritious food and regular opportunities to play in the fresh air.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Children gain some skills to support their future learning. However, they do not enjoy activities that lack suitable challenge or develop their interests. Babies receive too little interaction at times, to help them make consistently good progress. Children play well together and confidently manage tasks, such as using cutlery to feed themselves.
