This provision is good
The well-qualified childminder has made positive changes to improve her practice since the last inspection. She uses self-evaluation well, identifying clear targets to help her to provide a good standard of care and education for children. The childminder carries out regular observations and assessments of children's development. She identifies what children need to learn next and provides activities and experiences that are enjoyable and interesting. Children make good progress. Children are happy and settled. They behave well and form secure relationships with the calm, caring and sensitive childminder. Children learn about their similarities and differences between themselves and others. For example, the childminder values and celebrates children's individuality, helping them to distinguish how their facial features differ from others. The childminder consistently models counting as children play. Younger children copy

her and use numbers spontaneously. This helps them to build on their early mathematical skills effectively.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not use highly successful strategies that help to support parents with ways to continue children's learning at home. The childminder does not regularly share more detailed information about children's development with other settings children attend, to ensure a fully joined up approach.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

provide more detailed information to parents on what their children need to learn next and further encourage them to continue learning at home share more detailed information with other settings children attend to help support the highest levels of continuity in children's learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector looked at the areas of the premises that are used for childminding, including the outdoor area. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed an evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector discussed self-evaluation, risk assessments and the childminder's policies and procedures. She checked evidence of the childminder's suitability and training certificates.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes all required training. She updates her knowledge and her policies to ensure that she continues to meet the welfare requirements. The childminder has a good understanding of what to do should she have concerns about the welfare of a child. She establishes links with other childminders to share practice ideas and completes her own research to help develop her practice. The childminder considers the views of parents and children when making any changes. Overall, the childminder forms positive relationships with parents. She gathers information about what children already know and can do prior to them starting. The childminder uses this well to help support their future learning. She effectively monitors the progress that children make towards the early learning goals.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder interacts positively with children during activities and supports the development of their communication and language well. For example, she encourages children to join in during singing activities. Younger children listen carefully and burst into their own interpretations of the song. They successfully learn new actions and gain confidence in their own abilities, showing a determination and can-do attitude to learning. Younger children enjoy listening to stories and join in with the enthusiastic childminder. They point to the pictures on the pages and practise sounding out new words, such as 'hat'. This also helps younger children to build on their early reading, listening and attention skills effectively.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a warm and safe environment for children to learn and play in. She offers flexible settling-in sessions which help children to feel secure and they settle quickly. The childminder is a good role model and children are learning to share and take turns effectively. The childminder teaches children about leading healthy lifestyles, such as washing their hands before eating meals. She provides healthy, home-made meals and fresh fruit for snacks. The childminder takes children out into the community regularly. For instance, children visit soft-play centres and playgroups. This helps them to develop an understanding of the wider world and also helps to promote the development of their good physical skills. The childminder offers lots of praise and encouragement, supporting children's growing self-esteem.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from when they first start their placement. Younger children practise their self-care skills, such as taking off their shoes and learn to put them back on again. They freely access the toys they want to play with and show good levels of independence. Children are happy, enjoy what is on offer and are keen to try out new activities. They are learning the key skills required for future learning and the eventual move on to school.
