This provision is good
The extremely warm and stimulating environment encourages children to make positive choices in their play. They are encouraged to respect each other and the environment. Children behave very well, they are very settled and are developing good attitudes to learning. Parents are kept up to date with the progress their child is making. They are fully involved in decisions about their child's routines and their development. They have opportunities for daily conversation with the childminder and focused times where they can discuss their child's individual needs. The childminder has good knowledge of her role and responsibilities with regard to child protection. She has a clear understanding of how to keep children safe and the wider safeguarding issues such as being able to identify if children or families are at risk from radicalisation and extreme views. The childminder has an accurate understanding of the development of the children she

looks after. She takes account of their interests and plans effectively to support each child's learning. She quickly identifies any gaps in a child's development and takes immediate action to ensure all children make good progress in their learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always gather information about what children know and can do quickly enough.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

take steps to further develop the assessment of children's learning to ensure their starting points are identified quickly.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector looked at children's records, planning documentation and a range of other documentation including policies and procedures. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the day.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is a good role model for children. She is interested in what the children say and do and skilfully uses their interests to develop relevant play opportunities and activities. Safeguarding arrangements are effective. The childminder has a number of well organised policies and procedures in place which support her practice. The childminder is committed to continuous improvement. She has undertaken training to develop her knowledge of e-safety and the best way to support development in babies. She has recently moved from working with another childminder and has thoroughly reviewed her practice to ensure children have a stimulating learning environment.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Activities are fun and focus on all areas of children’s development. Children are interested in the activities the childminder sets up and actively join in. Very young children use a variety of equipment as they explore play dough. For example, the childminder models the use of rolling pins and cutters, she encourages the children to copy her actions and try out different ways of using the equipment to mould and shape the dough. The childminder carefully adapts her language to suit the age and individual needs of the children who attend so that they get the most out of all play opportunities. For example, she differentiates instructions she gives to children to ensure she continues to develop their specific language skills. Praise and encouragement for the children forms a natural part of all activities they take part in.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder divides her time extremely well between the children. She effectively manages to support children’s play when they are playing together and when they are playing separately with different toys and equipment. For example, a baby played with a toy steering wheel, the childminder made the noise of the car for the baby to mimic. A toddler played with dolls and was supported to find the things a baby needs, such as bottles and covers. At the same time, as an older child counts toy cars, the childminder supports their language, modelling and repeating numbers with the child. Children were all encouraged in their play and concentrated for a long period of time. When very young children are asked, they respond positively and help to clear away activities before getting out other toys and resources. Older toddlers talk to the childminder about the younger babies by saying their name and recognising when they are upset or tired.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Young children are curious, eager and motivated to learn. They practise extending and developing their language skills. The childminder repeatedly models sounds to help children recognise and use the correct words in their play. She makes sure children develop competence in their personal needs, encouraging very young children to use spoons to eat and older children to use spoons and forks. She reinforces good hygiene routines and talks to the children about why they are doing things. For example they wash their hands after completing a messy activity.
