This provision is good

 The childminder has warm and nurturing relationships with children. She has a good knowledge of their individual routines and promotes their emotional well-being effectively.  The childminder works closely with her co-minder. They share ideas when planning activities and work collaboratively to support children's learning. All children are making good progress.  The childminder has good relationships with other settings that children attend. She shares information about what children need to learn next and their interests. This helps provide a consistent approach to their ongoing development.  The childminder supports children's language skills well. She asks a good range of questions that is suitable for children's level of understanding and helps develop their play and imagination.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Occasionally, during creative activities, children are not able to make the best use of the resources available because they are too advanced for their age.  At times, routine activities interrupt children's play unnecessarily and possible learning opportunities are missed.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 ensure the resources available for early writing are suitable for young children in order for them to achieve their desired goal  review the organisation of routine times of the day to ensure that children are provided with the best possible learning opportunities.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with children and quality of teaching.  The inspector viewed a range of written documentation, including children's development records and policies.  The inspector viewed all areas of the home to which children have access.  The inspector viewed written feedback from parents to gain their views and opinions.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has good relationships with parents. She shares information about their children's learning and welcomes their feedback to help her improve. Parents are very happy with the care and learning opportunities that the childminder provides. They praise her for the care and attention she provides for their children. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of child protection procedures and the process to follow if she has concerns about children's safety. She keeps her knowledge up to date and makes sure her policies are in line with current guidelines and legislation. The childminder is keen to improve the provision for children. Since her last inspection, she has improved opportunities for children to learn about the wider world and has developed the outdoor area.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides a good range of resources and activities which motivates children to engage in purposeful learning. For example, as children played with role-play resources, the childminder asked them if they could put the person 'into' and 'next to' the car. This helps to develop children's understanding of positional language. The childminder gives children time to explore and narrates effectively as they play. For example, she talked to them about the colour car they were using and where they could go next. Children enjoy creative activities and develop their small-muscle skills. The childminder encourages children to make marks with their fingers and some utensils. For example, when children made 'animals' the childminder asked questions, such as 'where are their eyes?'. The childminder encourages children to use their imaginations and extend their play.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder promotes children's emerging independence skills effectively. She encourages them to tidy away and supports them to wash their hands before eating. Children behave well and respond to the childminder's instructions. They are very well settled in her home and have a secure understanding of the routine. For example, after lunch, they know that it is time to go to bed and do so with ease. The childminder provides children with lots of praise and they develop their confidence and self-esteem. She makes good use of the local area to help promote children's physical skills and develop their knowledge of the world. Children have picnics in the park and visit farm animals. This supports their awareness of the environment and local community.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are confident and enthusiastic learners who are not afraid to 'have a go' and try different activities. They are consistently making good progress in preparation for future learning and moving on to school. From a young age, children show kindness and consideration towards others, and understand that they have to take turns and show respect.
