This provision is good

 The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment where children feel safe and secure. Children settle quickly into his home and confidently explore their surroundings.  The childminder has a good understanding of children's interests. He provides activities and resources that engage children in their play and motivate them to learn. All children make good progress.  The childminder works effectively with his co-minder. They share information about children's learning which helps support ongoing planning and provision.  The childminder has good partnerships with parents. He takes time each day to talk to them about their children's learning. The childminder shares documentation with parents and ensures that they are involved in their children's development.  The childminder is committed to improving the provision for children. For example, he has developed the outdoor area to provide greater learning opportunities, such as

adding climbing equipment and a wildlife area.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, the childminder completes tasks for children that they could do for themselves.  Occasionally, the childminder allows routine times of the day to interrupt children's play and learning unnecessarily.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 allow children more time to complete tasks independently, to help further develop their confidence and sense of achievement  review the organisation of routine times of the day to ensure that children are provided with the best possible learning opportunities.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder interacting with children and assessed his quality of teaching.  The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector viewed children's development records and tracked their progress.  The inspector viewed all areas of the home to which children have access.  The inspector viewed written feedback from parents to gain their views.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is fully aware of his responsibilities to keep children safe. He understands what to do if he has concerns about children's safety. The childminder ensures that he keeps his child protection knowledge and understanding up to date. For example, he attends training, subscribes to early years websites and works closely with his co-minder. The childminder assesses the risks within his home daily to ensure it is safe. The childminder has good partnerships with other settings and local schools that children attend. He shares information about children's learning and interests, which helps provide a consistent approach to supporting their ongoing development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder supports children's communication and language skills effectively. He constantly comments and expands children's language while they play and uses simple keywords and sentences. For example, children showed him a toy car and he responded, 'Car, you have a red car.' Children enjoy exploring play dough and developing their small- muscle skills. For example, the childminder showed children how to manipulate the dough and how to use different utensils to make marks. Children enjoy being active and the childminder encourages them to dance and move their bodies to music. He sings nursery rhymes with children and encourages them to take part in the actions.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children have secure relationships with the childminder. They seek him out to be part of their play and go to him with ease for support and comfort when needed. Children behave well and have a good understanding of the daily routine. They follow instructions well for their age. For example, they helped to tidy away toys when asked and understood that they had to wash their hands before eating. The childminder has a good knowledge of children's routines. He recognises when they are tired and settles them down to sleep. Children have plenty of opportunities to access the outdoor area. They are able to practise their emerging physical skills. For example, on climbing equipment and going for walks to the play park and fields, where they see the farm animals and go for picnics.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress in their learning and development in preparation for future learning and moving on to school. Children are keen to take part in activities and not afraid to 'have a go' and try. They show an interest in books, confidently point at pictures and say single words. Children are confident and are learning how to take care of themselves. For example, they eat independently and wash their hands.
