This provision is good
The childminder is confident and caring. She has a good knowledge of how children learn. She regularly observes and assesses children's progress. This contributes to the good progress that children make. Children have developed good relationships with the childminder. They happily cooperate, benefit from consistent daily routines and have high levels of self-esteem. The childminder plans a wide range of activities, covering all areas of learning, in and out of the home. She carefully checks children's progress and plans activities that they find challenging and enjoyable. Parents receive good information about their children's experiences and progress from the childminder, who supports them well to share any learning from home. They appreciate and value the things children make with the childminder, such as paintings, clay decorations and homemade samosas. The childminder plans a welcoming and stimulating environment. She organises her

home well to enable children to move freely and make independent choices. Children have a good sense of belonging. They easily access good-quality toys.

It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not make effective use of opportunities to support children to think things through and solve problems. The childminder does not target her professional development as well as she could to raise the quality of teaching even further, to benefit children's learning.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder and talked to her and the children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including policies, evidence of suitability of household members, and observations and assessment documentation. The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation. The inspector took account of the views of parents and children from information in the childminder's records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of child protection matters and local referral procedures. She keeps herself up to date with recent safeguarding legislation. She carries out effective risk assessments and stores required documentation securely and confidentiality. The childminder teaches children well about potential hazards and how to stay safe. The childminder regularly monitors and reviews children's progress to identify and address any emerging gaps promptly. The childminder evaluates her practice well. She actively seeks the views of parents to help her evaluate her practice and make changes that meet their, and their children's needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is attentive to children. She observes their play closely and adapts resources to help them engage fully in activities. Children demonstrate good concentration and physical skills as they focus on scooping and pouring water. Children are eager to talk and listen well as the childminder speaks. The childminder reinforces children's developing speaking skills. She acknowledges their attempts to say new words. She repeats words they find difficult to say, such as 'reindeer', to help them. The childminder plans challenging and achievable targets to help extend children's development. She shares these with parents to enable a shared approach to children's learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder focuses well on developing children's social and personal skills. She encourages children to help in daily tasks. For instance, children help to tidy up toys and learn to carry plastic plates safely. Children demonstrate confidence and understanding, for example, they know where to access and store toys. The childminder follows consistent hygiene routines and teaches children about healthy eating and good hygiene. Children learn about different cultures in planned activities. They learn about their local community during trips to local playgroups and the library with the childminder. This provides good opportunities for them to meet and play with other children. The childminder is a positive role model for children. She stays calm and shows children how to share and be kind to each other.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning from their individual starting points. They are motivated to play, explore and learn. They pretend to cook, placing pans in toy ovens, showing good physical skills, coordination and imagination. Children are confident to express their own ideas. They beat out different rhythms with sticks on drums. They choose where they want to eat their fruit snacks. Children are happy learners. They are developing the skills that prepare them well for the next stage in their learning, including their eventual move to school.
