This provision is good
The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment where children are well settled and happy. Children form good friendships and secure relationships with the childminder and his family. Children very behave well for their ages. They learn to take turns and share the resources. Children play well together. For example, they take it in turns to count and find the rubber fish hidden in the playroom. The childminder knows the children well. He monitors their progress successfully. For example, he regularly observes the children and tracks their learning to plan for their individual next steps. Children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder works well to reflect on his practice. For instance, he uses the support of local professionals to evaluate and identify areas for improvement. The childminder helps young children to gain an understanding of good hygiene practice. For example, he reminds them to wash their hands before meals.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses opportunities to support children to learn how to pronounce words correctly. The childminder does not provide children with many opportunities to learn more about the differences and diversity in the world.

p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder keeps his knowledge of safeguarding up to date. He has a good understanding of the local procedures to follow to report concerns about a child's welfare. He has recently taken part in further training to extend his knowledge of wider child protection issues. The childminder works well with children's parents to involve them in their child's development. For example, he has regular meetings to share progress and to plan for children's next steps in learning. The childminder is already qualified and keen to develop his skills further, such as through attending more training and sharing skills with other professionals. The childminder has good systems to keep children safe and to manage risks. For example, he implements procedures, such as the safe use of mobile phones, and he carries out daily risk assessments of the environment, to help keep children safe and protect them from harm.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and is skilled at encouraging children to participate in learning. For example, he acts as a good role model, and is calm and patient with the children. The childminder makes the most of opportunities to support children's mathematical awareness. For instance, he encourages children to use mathematical language as they play and supports them with their growing interest in numbers. Children excitedly count back from 10 to get clues to help them as they hunt for the hidden fish, developing good problem-solving skills. They use the numbers on the wall to copy as they eagerly write numbers on their drawing boards.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has high expectations of what the children can do. He successfully helps children to develop confidence and to take pride in their achievements. For example, he constantly gives children praise and encourages them to take on suitable challenges. Children are keen to explore and demonstrate confidence in making their own choices and decisions. The childminder supports this well. For example, he follows the children's interests and joins in when they seek his involvement. The childminder actively promotes children's health and well-being. For instance, he provides children with opportunities to use the garden to have daily exercise.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children acquire good skills that prepare them well for their future learning. They are motivated to learn and persist to manage challenges. Older children gain a good mathematical awareness and younger children develop good levels of concentration. For example, they sit and explore toys, and stay focused as they learn how they work. All children make good progress in their learning.
