This provision is good
The childminder is fully aware of her responsibility to supervise children and protect them from harm. She effectively takes action to manage and eliminate risks inside and outside to help children play safely. Overall, children display good levels of emotional development. The childminder forms secure attachments with them and values their unique ideas. Children settle well and make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder frequently shares information with parents about the progress children make and provides ideas to support home learning. The childminder is reflective in her practice. Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and interactions between the childminder and children throughout the inspection. The inspector viewed documentation, such as evidence of suitability and qualifications. The inspector viewed areas in the property used for childminding. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector discussed with the childminder how she evaluates her practice and any changes she has made since her last inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of child protection procedures and knows how to report any concerns regarding children's welfare. She is aware of her duty to prevent and protect children from exposure to situations which may put them at significant risk of harm. The childminder attends regular training to help her keep her knowledge and skills up to date. She puts what she learns into effective use to help raise children's outcomes. For example, training she attended has helped her to fully understand how she can use children's interests to extend their learning more effectively. The childminder effectively tracks the progress of all children and ensures that children achieve well in all areas of learning. She works closely with the local nurseries and primary schools to support children's move to school.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder obtains relevant information from parents about what children can and cannot do when they start. She uses this information well to plan for what children need to learn next to help them progress in their learning. The childminder interacts well with children and asks relevant questions to build on their communication and language skills. For example, while looking at colours with the youngest children, she positioned herself well, commented on what the children were doing and repeated instructions to help them understand. This helped the youngest children to remain focused and eager to learn. The childminder fosters children's interest in books and makes story time enjoyable and engaging. For example, she allows younger children to identify key characters in books and provides puppets alongside reading for great enjoyment.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides children with a safe and welcoming environment. She gives clear expectations for behaviour and encourages children to share and take turns. This contributes positively to the way children behave. The childminder encourages children to develop good hygiene routines and provides a variety of healthy meals. She discusses the importance of healthy eating with children during mealtimes to reinforce their understanding of healthy lifestyles.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop good skills for their next stage of learning. For example, babies are very active and they move around with ease, exploring toys and finding out how things work. Younger children enjoy riding bicycles and cars, and learn how to coordinate and balance their bodies in different ways. Children listen well to instructions and begin to join words to communicate their needs.
