This provision is good

 The childminder is well qualified and has a good understanding of how children learn. She plans enjoyable and challenging activities to help children learn and develop.  Children develop secure emotional attachments in the childminder's care. They develop a sense of belonging and this supports their emotional well-being successfully.  Children's health and physical development is promoted effectively. They have good opportunities to spend time outdoors. They learn about eating healthy food and good self-care skills.  The childminder speaks to children respectfully. Children learn about good behaviours and the impact their behaviour has on others. They share, take turns and keep themselves safe.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not fully developed ways of encouraging parents to regularly share information about children's learning at home.  The childminder does not focus sharply enough on her professional development to raise the quality of her provision to the highest level.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enhance opportunities for parents to share information about what children are learning at home  extend the focus on professional development to raise the good-quality teaching to the next level.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder.  The inspector looked at a sample of relevant documentation, including evidence of the suitability of adults living and working on the premises and the childminder's qualifications.  The inspector took account of the views of parents from information provided in written references on the day of inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of how to identify the possible signs of abuse and neglect. She undertakes training to enhance her understanding of the wider risks to children across the child protection remit. The childminder knows how to keep children safe and minimise risks in the home and on outings. She reflects on the quality of her provision and how she can improve outcomes for children. Partnerships with parents are good. Daily communication books keep parents well informed about children's care routines, well-being and play experiences. The childminder uses the information gained from her observations to plan effectively around children's interests and next steps. Information about children's progress is shared with parents. Parents are complimentary about childminder and comment on the excellent service, wonderful environment and the progress their children make.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder places a strong focus on promoting children's communication, language and listening skills. As a result, all children are confident and expressive talkers. The childminder uses every opportunity to include discussions about numbers and counting as children play and follow daily routines. Children develop a love of books and delight in listening to their favourite story. They use soft toys and pretend they are the characters in the book, such as the owl and the fox. The childminder models play well and shows children how to use equipment, such as a pipette. She encourages them to work things out for themselves, for example, how they could get the penguins and letters out of the ice blocks. Children talk about what they enjoy doing, such as reading books and playing with building blocks. Children's progress is tracked accurately and any gaps in learning are identified and planned for effectively.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are relaxed and happy in the childminder's care. Children take part in a range of outings to local parks, and craft, singing and music groups. This helps them to learn about the local community and build their confidence as they socialise with their peers. Children develop good independence in readiness for school and have a go at putting their boots and coats on to go in the garden.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their learning and are well prepared for their next stage in learning and their eventual move on to school. Children learn about diversity and different festivals and celebrations which help their understanding of a wider society. They are confident, independent and make choices about their play. They follow their interests and confidently demonstrate what they know and can do.
