This provision is good
The childminder has high expectations of herself and the service she provides, and she understands the importance of partnership working. She listens to advice and comments from parents and other agencies, and uses this information to provide children with a secure foundation for learning. The childminder uses information gained from children's starting points to ensure she has a sound judgement of children's level of development. She ensures she has a good knowledge of the children, their needs and their next steps. This means children are equipped to learn, and encouraged to progress. The childminder provides a welcoming environment. She has fostered warm and positive relationships with the children. Consequently, children are happy, secure and comfortable in her care. Children develop good levels of independence at all ages. Young children have mastered the early stages of using a knife to cut fruit, and choose for themselves which
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always provide sufficient time for children to finish the activities they engage in, to extend their own learning and critical thinking further.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

provide more opportunity for children to finish tasks and activities in their own time.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and learning. The inspector observed a planned activity with the childminder to assess children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder and parents, and discussed the setting's self- evaluation. The inspector reviewed the planning of activities and children's developmental records to assess the progress that children are making.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her responsibilities to keep children safe from harm and what to do should she have a concern about a child in her care. She keeps abreast of changes to ensure that her policies and procedures are current and robust. Regular risk assessments of the home, car and outings also help her to keep children safe. They help the childminder to identify risks and ways to minimise potential hazards. The childminder accurately assesses her provision and has clear priorities for improvement. She ensures that the training courses she attends impact positively on the children. For example, a course focused on outdoor learning has encouraged her to develop a mud kitchen that helps children to develop physical and mathematical skills.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder interacts well with the children and uses her knowledge of their interests to support learning and engagement well. For example, she uses balls and cars to encourage children to develop their mark-making skills with paint. The childminder gives children good opportunities to make their own decisions about their play, and even the very young children are encouraged to choose their own resources. The childminder has a sound understanding of child development and the early years foundation stage. She uses this knowledge and her teaching skills well to help children learn. For example, she explains, demonstrates and questions clearly to encourage children to think for themselves and to imagine how something might turn out.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder prepares a healthy, interesting range of fresh food, and uses these opportunities to teach children about other countries and cultures. For example, she provides a persimmon fruit and tells children the Russian name for it. The childminder understands the importance of regular exercise and fresh air, and provides daily opportunities for children to run and play outdoors. The children go on regular trips to the park, woods and canal with the childminder to extend their understanding of the world. Partnership with parents is strong, and the childminder has developed trusting relationships with the families she cares for. She has photographs of extended families to support children to settle and feel secure in her care. She swaps information with parents on a daily basis to ensure children receive a high quality of care and education.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children learn a wide range of vocabulary, and communicate their needs and wants effectively. Young children settle quickly and their behaviour is good, enabling them to take full advantage of the learning on offer. Children demonstrate well the characteristics of effective learning. They are motivated to learn and are involved in a wide range of activities. They are inquisitive and demonstrate good levels of concentration. This ensures they are well prepared for school.
