This provision is good
The childminder has an accurate knowledge of children's learning needs and adapts her teaching very effectively to help them make good progress. She gathers a wide range of information about children's learning, including from parents and other professionals, and uses this well to plan for what each child needs to learn next. The childminder is kind, caring and sensitive towards children's individual needs. She very effectively builds children's independence, confidence and self-esteem. The childminder manages children's behaviour very well. She is a strong role model, who teaches children to be respectful and kind to each other. Partnerships with parents are purposeful and support children's good progress. The childminder involves parents very successfully in their children's learning and development. Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding purposes. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including accident and incident records, and records of attendance. The inspector discussed the process of self-evaluation with the childminder and how she obtains the views of all those who use her provision. The inspector took account of the written views of parents. The inspector and the childminder jointly observed children and discussed the children's development and learning together.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is confident of the procedures to follow if she has concerns about children's welfare. She minimises possible dangers in the home and makes sure children remain safe. For example, she checks regularly on sleeping children and supervises children closely as they play. The childminder regularly updates her knowledge to enhance the service she offers. She is undertaking a recognised childcare qualification and holds professional discussions with her co-childminder to implement new ideas that benefit the children. The childminder works very closely with her co-childminder to monitor children's progress. She acts quickly to close any emerging gaps in children's learning and successfully includes parents and professionals.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder interacts purposefully with children as she joins in their play. She is skilled in knowing when to interact with children and when to give them time to work things out for themselves. Children are eager to engage in whole-group activities such as register time at the start of the day. They show high levels of confidence, for example, as they stand up in front of their friends and sing a song. All children are included in the extra- curricular activities on offer. They enjoy weekly Spanish lessons and are keen to show off their new skills to visitors as they confidently sing simple rhymes in Spanish and identify colours and numbers.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder's gentle encouragement and calming attitude support children's strong sense of belonging in the group. The childminder successfully promotes children's health and well-being. She follows younger children's home routines, such as sleep times, so that there is consistency in their care. The childminder supports children to take responsibility for their own safety and develop their independence. For example, she helps children learn to use equipment, such as small knives carefully, as children cut up fruit for their snack. Children have a wide range of opportunities to learn about other people and places in the world. They regularly enjoy outings with the childminder and her co-childminder into the community.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are independent learners who show a strong determination to persevere at tasks. They make good progress in their learning and development from their initial starting points. Children develop good language skills and are confident communicators. They demonstrate good manners and follow instructions very well. Children work out things for themselves and demonstrate a clear ability to solve problems. They acquire a wide range of skills in readiness for school.
