p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The childminder has a poor knowledge of the early years foundation stage and her statutory responsibilities. She has not notified Ofsted of all persons living in the house. The childminder does not provide adequate fire protection equipment, such as a fire blanket or fire extinguisher, to keep children safe and promote their welfare in the event of a fire. Information obtained from basic observation, assessment and monitoring procedures is not used effectively to plan activities with adequate challenge to support children's progress. Opportunities for children to practise their conversation skills are not always supported by quality teaching.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Partnerships with parents are established. The childminder shares information with parents to promote continuity of children's care routines and learning. Children are reassured by the childminder's calm interactions. Children are happy in her care. They navigate around the childminder's home in a confident and independent manner.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage and the Childcare Register the provider must:

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

develop teaching strategies to extend children's language and communication skills.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector held a number of discussions with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of persons living in the household. The inspector spoke to children during the inspection. The inspector took account of the views of parents through written feedback provided.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder has a poor understanding of the early years foundation stage. She has failed to inform Ofsted of changes to persons living in the household. However, a suitability check is not required on the person and children's safety is not compromised. The childminder has made some improvements to address weaknesses in practice identified at her last inspection. For instance, a valid first-aid certificate is now in place and assessment procedures have been reviewed. The childminder works closely with other professionals and has begun to evaluate her service. For instance, she discusses practice with other childminders and receives support from local authority quality advisors. She utilises their knowledge and ideas to improve her service. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows the signs and symptoms that may suggest a child is at risk from harm. She understands the appropriate actions to take to report child

protection concerns. This promotes children's welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder does not sufficiently use information obtained from monitoring to plan challenging activities linked to children's next steps in learning. Consequently, activities do not support children's progress. At times, activities are mundane, lack sufficient challenge and children quickly lose interest and move from one activity to another with little engagement. This impacts on children's overall progress. Children are not provided with sufficient opportunities to think and talk as they play. Consequently, children's language and communication skills are not fully extended. The childminder is attentive and plays alongside children. She encourages children to select toys they wish to play with. This helps support children's confidence and independence. Children develop problem-solving skills as they play. For example, children carefully hammer toy pegs during construction games. This supports coordination and problem-solving skills.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Sufficient fire protection and control equipment is not in place to fully promote children's safety and welfare. However, children practise fire evacuation procedures and understand how to swiftly exit the childminder's home in the event of a fire. The childminder is sensitive to children's individual needs. She recognises when children in her care are tired and adapts routines to accommodate sleep times. Flexible routines ensure children's needs are quickly met. This helps promote children's welfare. Children behave well. They are polite and helpful. Children enjoy well balanced, homemade meals. Nutritious food contributes to children's health. Children learn how to keep themselves safe.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Children do not make enough progress from their starting points. Children are not adequately challenged and do not reach their full potential. However, children are well behaved and confident. They gain the basic skills required for the next stage in their learning.
