Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is fully aware of her responsibilities regarding child protection and ensures that her assistant's knowledge is up to date. She accurately identifies her strengths and priorities for improvement and seeks the views of parents through questionnaires. The childminder observes her assistant and advises her of ways to improve her practice as she interacts with the children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plans activities that support children's learning across all areas of the curriculum, inside and in her garden. The childminder's assistant contributes to planning as they reflect on, and discuss, activities at the end of each week. The childminder plans activities that meet the needs of individual children and she provides a wide range of lovely toys to suit children of all ages. Assessments and next steps in children's learning are shared with parents through an online record-keeping system. Parents have regular opportunities to comment on their children's progress. They say that they enjoy receiving photographs of the activities that their children do each day.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children form secure attachments to the childminder and her assistant, who respond warmly and support their overall well-being. Children behave well. The childminder uses pictures with captions to support children to play well with each other. Children have regular opportunities to mix with others and to develop their social skills. The childminder provides healthy snacks and meals and children talk about what they like to eat. The childminder promotes children's respect for other cultures and people who have disabilities. For example, she provides books, pictures and toys that positively reflect differences. Children also have opportunities to taste food from different cultures and explore art activities during celebrations.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are working within the expected stages of development for their ages. They are well supported by the childminder and make typical progress from their starting points. Children learn early mathematics and literacy skills as they count, compare sizes and practise letter sounds during play times and everyday routines. They are emotionally prepared for moving on to school as, for example, the childminder talks to them about what going to school will be like.
