This provision is good
The childminder works well with parents and supports them in understanding and promoting their children's development. Parents report that they appreciate her good communication and the range of stimulating activities she offers children. The childminder continues to develop her practice. She has achieved a childcare qualification and uses her knowledge from this and from completing further training. She now implements improved procedures to help older children in learning to manage their behaviour. Thorough monitoring of children's progress enables the childminder to quickly identify any weaker areas in their learning and address these. She has increased the opportunities that support children in developing their self-care skills. The childminder uses her assessments of children effectively to plan their next developmental steps. She offers them activities that reflect their interests and enthuse

them. Children make good progress, gaining new knowledge and skills as they play. Children enjoy using local facilities, such as toddler groups and the library. This helps raise their awareness of their community and differences. They mirror the childminder's approach and show care and respect for one another.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently offer children opportunities that help them to develop their skills in making marks and writing. The childminder does not offer children as many opportunities as possible that aid them in understanding how healthy eating and exercise affect their good health.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector talked with children and the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. She reviewed an activity with the childminder. The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability of household members. She discussed the childminder's self-evaluation information and viewed a range of other documentation, including the safeguarding procedures. The inspector took account of the views of parents as given in their written feedback to the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder maintains and extends her knowledge of this area by completing training and reading relevant documents. This aids her in being aware of the issues that may have a negative impact on children's welfare and she demonstrates a clear understanding of how to report any concerns. The childminder rigorously reviews her work and makes pertinent changes. She has introduced further outdoor opportunities that support children's learning. For example, children learn about volumes as they fill the wheelbarrow with soil. The childminder has effective procedures to exchange information with other childcare providers so that children's development is not interrupted as they move between settings.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder adapts activities so that children of varying ages and abilities can participate. For example, when playing with large buttons, older children enjoy the challenge of counting and threading these. Younger children develop control of their smaller hand muscles as they pick up the buttons and move them in and out of containers. Children enjoy opportunities that support them in exploring and experimenting. They play with soap flakes, kneading these in their hands and noting how the flakes change. They then work out how to make bubbles by adding water. The childminder uses daily activities as a way of promoting children's development. For example, children develop their vocabulary as they sing together. The childminder makes good use of open questions as a further way of extending children's learning. They eagerly discuss a favourite book and share their ideas about how they could make animal models
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder obtains clear initial information from parents and uses this to help children settle. For example, babies feel secure and comforted when they feed and sleep according to their home routines. The childminder has extended the opportunities that support children in developing their physical skills. They enjoy balancing on logs and using large play equipment, including slides and swings. The childminder supports children well and they learn to use tools, such as scissors and cutlery, safely and effectively. She observes them and offers praise and encouragement. This helps build children's confidence and their ability to persevere at tasks in readiness for starting school.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder uses effective teaching methods so that all children make good progress. They develop the essential skills that support their learning and prepare them for school. Children enjoy exploring the resources and competently initiate and organise their own play. They extend their creativity and communication skills as they explore a bag of coloured scarves. They use the scarves to dress up and work together to make up an associated story.
