This provision is good
The childminder is a positive role model for children. She frequently praises and builds their confidence and self-worth. Children behave extremely well as a result, given their young age. The childminder gets to know children very well and understands how they learn and develop. She follows children's individual interests closely and provides a good level of challenge that keeps them successfully engaged and motivated to learn. The childminder completes regular observations and assessments of children's learning. She effectively uses this information and takes account of children's ongoing interests to support the next steps in their learning. Children are happy and content in the childminder's care. They build secure bonds with her and are confident to ask for support when needed. The childminder is kind and caring, which helps children to feel safe and secure.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:

Although the childminder develops her skills, she does not fully focus her professional development on ways to raise the overall quality of her teaching to an even higher level, to extend children's progress even further.

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a robust understanding of child protection issues. She knows what to do should she have concerns about the safety or welfare of a child. The childminder implements her policies and procedures effectively. This underpins her practice and helps to ensure children's well- being, safety and welfare. The childminder regularly seeks the views of parents and responds positively to any suggestions they make. She uses self-evaluation well and develops thorough improvement plans. The childminder is committed to improving the quality of her provision. She researches ideas to help her introduce new learning opportunities for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder plans a wide range of fun activities and first-hand experiences for children. She understands children's interests and skilfully joins in with their play. Children receive clear explanations and the childminder demonstrates safe practices, such as how to cut fruit. The childminder adapts activities to ensure they support children to gain new skills. For example, she turns handwashing into a water play activity when children show an interest in bubbles. The childminder provides imaginative play opportunities with dolls to support children as they embark on a new potty training routine, enabling them to act out and explore their experiences. Children begin to learn about the wider world. They enjoy outings on the local bus and tram with the childminder. They select and purchase fruit for snack time during trips to the local shops.

p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children are active and curious in their play and exploration, and have an eager disposition towards learning. They enjoy making choices throughout the day and follow their own ideas. Children are becoming independent and learn to take control of their own self-care needs. They develop their concentration skills as they participate in activities, such as painting and water play. They learn good social skills and manners. Children make good progress in relation to their starting points and they gain the skills they require for their later move on to school.
