Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an extensive knowledge of child protection matters and knows how to refer concerns to the relevant authorities. She completes thorough risk assessments and implements very robust health and safety procedures to protect children from harm. The childminder is dedicated and passionate about her role. She uses highly effective evaluation to reflect on, and continually develop her practice. For example, the childminder has plans in place to develop her garden further to extend the already superb learning opportunities outdoors. The childminder supports her assistant extremely well with regular supervision and training.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder makes high-quality observations and assessments and knows exactly what children need to learn next. She uses a story to target the individual needs of children extremely well. The childminder pauses to encourage children to fill in the gaps with their own words and asks challenging questions about the sequence of the story. Younger children are encouraged to join in with the noises the characters make. This helps children to develop exceptional communication, language and critical-thinking skills. The childminder makes excellent use of local and surrounding facilities and areas to promote children's learning. This greatly broadens children's experiences and understanding of the world in which they live.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Home visits are highly successful in helping children to settle in. The childminder finds out about and acknowledges children's uniqueness, and uses this to plan to meet children's individual needs from the outset. The childminder strongly promotes healthy lifestyles. For example, children grow, harvest and sample their own fruit and vegetables which endorses healthy eating practices. Children's behaviour is impeccable. The childminder is an excellent role model. She listens very carefully to children and responds swiftly and sensitively to their care needs. The childminder lavishes children with praise and celebrates every achievement with them. This contributes to their high levels of self- esteem and confidence. Children have extensive opportunities to be physically active.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

All children are extremely independent. They follow their own interests and confidently explore the highly stimulating environment. They are learning to recognise colours and shapes as they play and explore. Children play amicably together, take turns and share resources fairly. They demonstrate well-developed physical skills as they pedal bicycles and kick balls. The skills and attributes that children are acquiring prepare them exceptionally well for the move on to their next stage in learning, including school.
