This provision is good

 The childminder provides a very well-resourced and welcoming environment. An interesting range of activities is on offer. The activities capture children's interest and help all children make good progress in their learning.  Children's emotional well-being is supported well. For example, the childminder is caring and attentive to their individual needs. Babies settle quickly and the childminder closely follows their individual routines.  The childminder shares effective partnerships with other professionals to support children's individual needs and help narrow any gaps in children's learning and development.  The childminder demonstrates a strong commitment to making ongoing improvements. She has an accurate understanding of the quality of her provision and makes effective use of feedback from early years advisers, her assistants and parents, to evaluate and make improvements to her service.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always use her observations of children to precisely identify the next steps in children's learning and target teaching to the highest level.  At times, children do not have sufficient time to reflect and respond to questions to develop their language and thinking skills even further.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop assessment arrangements to precisely identify the next steps in children's individual learning to target teaching to the highest level  provide more opportunities for children to have time to reflect and respond to questions, to extend their learning further.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and spoke with the childminder, assistants and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's development records and policies and procedures.  The inspector observed and evaluated a learning activity with the childminder.  The inspector took account of verbal and written comments from parents.  The inspector discussed self-evaluation with the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder and her assistants have a secure understanding of child protection issues. They have a good awareness of what action to take if they have any concerns about a child. The childminder makes good use of professional development for herself and her assistants. She is currently completing a relevant course at level 3. She uses her knowledge to make further improvements to her provision. For example, she has enhanced the learning environment to make this richer in print, to help support children's literacy skills. She shares her knowledge with her assistants to help provide good continuity of care.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder observes and monitors children's progress. She works closely with parents. They share information in several ways, such as daily discussions, written and electronic communication. Parents comment they are happy with the care and support their children receive. The childminder and her assistants engage effectively with children during their play. For example, they help children learn mathematical language such as size, position and shapes. Children have regular opportunities to develop their early writing skills. For example, they use large chalks to make marks on the paving stones outside.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder and her assistants help children learn positive patterns of behaviour. Children use good manners and show kindness to others. Children have good opportunities to develop healthy lifestyles. For example, they enjoy healthy home-cooked food at mealtimes. Children use their bodies to move during action songs and have plenty of exercise in the childminder's garden. Babies develop their physical skills, such as stretching to grasp objects. Children learn about the lives of others. For example, they celebrate a variety of events throughout the year. Children who speak English as an additional language have opportunities to use their home languages.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress from their starting points, including children who speak English as an additional language and those who have special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities. Children are quickly developing the skills they require for the next stage of their learning and eventual move to school. They are confident and motivated to learn. For example, they enthusiastically join in group activities. They develop their independence and learn to manage their personal care needs. For example, they persevere as they put on their outdoor clothes.
