This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The provider does not keep a daily record of children's hours of attendance to ensure their safety at all times. Staff do not consistently provide opportunities for all children who are learning English as an additional language to use and hear their home languages during play, to help further support their communication skills. Although the manager has introduced a system for monitoring individual children's progress, this is not refined enough to inform more rigorous analysis of the progress made by different groups of children.
p.1
It has the following strengths
Staff engage children in interesting and challenging activities that help them to enjoy their learning. All children make good progress in relation to their individual starting points. Children arrive happily at the nursery. They develop strong attachments with the friendly, welcoming staff. The manager provides coaching and training for staff to help them to improve their knowledge and outcomes for children in their care. Parents are very complimentary about the nursery and say that they would recommend it to others. They are very pleased with the progress their children make, particularly in developing their communication and mathematical skills.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and routines and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the nursery manager. The inspector spoke with staff and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector held meetings with the nursery manager and her deputy. She spoke to parents during the inspection and took account of their views. The inspector looked at children's assessment records, planning documentation and a range of other documentation, including risk assessments and accident records, and she discussed the nursery's self-evaluation document with the manager. The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability of staff working in the nursery.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The provider does not effectively monitor children's daily attendance to ensure children are safe and secure at all times. Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. Staff have a good knowledge of how to identify possible signs of abuse and how to report concerns regarding the welfare of a child. Self-evaluation, which involves staff and parents, is effective. The manager has systems to support children in making smooth transitions into school when the time comes, to help to promote children's continuity of care. Staff recruitment, vetting and induction procedures are robust. The manager has effective procedures to check the ongoing suitability of staff.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The well-qualified and experienced staff team interacts well with children during their play and helps to consolidate and extend their learning. Generally, children are motivated and engaged as they join in a wide variety of interesting and challenging activities that matches their interests. Staff encourage children to count, compare sizes and think for themselves as they create different structures during construction play. Easily accessible resources are provided to encourage children's spontaneous creativity and promote their artistic development. Staff provide plenty of opportunities for children to make marks to help develop their early writing skills. Children learn to respect others and develop their listening skills as they take turns to speak and listen during group activities.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Children behave well in this welcoming, inclusive environment. They are happy to take turns and share resources. Children respond positively to the regular praise they receive from staff for their efforts and achievements. This helps to develop children's sense of self-value. Children learn how to keep themselves safe. They know why they need to hold hands with a grown up when going for walks in the local community. However, the provider does not accurately record children's attendance at the nursery to ensure children's safety at all times. Staff help to promote children's good health. They provide nutritious snacks, which include fresh fruit and vegetables. Children are eager to join in high-energy activities and have fun jumping, dancing and stooping low as they take part in singing action songs.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Overall, children make good progress from their starting points. They are confident and keen learners. Children are developing a love of books and good pencil control. Children confidently lead their own play. They put on their own coats and shoes with minimal assistance. Children gain the skills and attitudes they need for their next stage of learning, including their move on to school.
