identify and address areas of her practice to improve further.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching and interaction during activities and assessed the impact of this on children's learning.  The inspector engaged with children during the inspection.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder about self-evaluation and improvement plans.  The inspector sampled relevant documentation, such as safeguarding procedures and progress checks for children aged between two and three years, and viewed children's development records.  The inspector took account of parents' views through their written comments.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of the procedures to follow if she has concerns about the safety of the children in her care. The childminder is proactive in extending her professional knowledge and skills to develop her good practice. For example, she completes regular training, researches good practice and shares ideas with other childminders. She implements what she learns to help her meet the children's needs more effectively. The childminder communicates well with parents. She sends them photographs of their children playing so parents know their children are happy and enjoying their time with her. Parents comment that they are very pleased with their children's progress, the care on offer and the flexibility of the childminding service.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good knowledge of how young children learn and develop. She successfully helps children to count and to identify colours. For example, they count and decide what colour cake cases they would like to use. The childminder teaches and gives children time to master new skills. For instance, young children develop high levels of control in their physical development as they learn to unscrew the tops of containers and shake out contents when decorating cakes. Children use their imagination well during pretend play. They move figures around a doll's house as they represent their own thoughts and ideas.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Young children thoroughly enjoy their time with the childminder. They have lots of fun and enjoy involving her in their play. They develop strong social skills and make good friendships, actively sharing their experiences. Children successfully lead a healthy lifestyle. They enjoy nutritious home-made meals and snacks, and have plenty of opportunity for fresh air and exercise. They particularly like playing on the trampoline and using the more challenging apparatus at the play park. Children learn how to manage risks safely, both in the childminder's home and during outings. For instance, they learn that it is not safe to stand on the sofa and know what to do to cross the road safely.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Young children demonstrate good skills when listening to the childminder and carrying out instructions as they complete simple tasks. They know to find nappies and moist wipes to clean their hands, in readiness for a nappy change. Children smile, showing pride in their achievements. All children develop a love of books. They enjoy stories being read and explore the many illustrations with great excitement. They quickly gain the skills they need for their future learning and eventual move on to school.
