Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder demonstrates knowledge of child protection issues and has appropriate policies and procedures in place. She understands what action to take if concerned about the welfare of a child. The childminder has developed strong links with other professionals. For example, she regularly attends groups in the local area with other childminders. This helps her to share ideas and reflect on the quality of her setting, overall. She gathers the views of parents to help identify further improvements needed. The childminder works with an assistant occasionally and ensures she supervises his practice and shares key information to promote consistency in their approach.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes the children's play and plans activities to support what children need to learn next. For example, she carefully selects jigsaws suited to the children's needs. She promotes language for younger children while looking at the pieces, such as a frog and challenges older children to identify shapes and numerals. The childminder sings songs and encourages children to join in the actions as a group. This helps to promote their communication and language skills well. The childminder keeps parents well informed about their child's development, including through progress summaries and photographs.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children enjoy moving their bodies to music and regularly go for walks in the local woods and parks. These are some of the ways that the childminder promotes their physical well- being. The childminder supports children's individual care needs well. For example, she works closely with parents to ensure children eat a good range of healthy foods. Children enjoy going to different groups across the week. This helps to develop their social skills and awareness of diversity in the community. The childminder consistently praises the children for their achievements. This helps to promote their self-esteem and confidence effectively.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are achieving in line with typical expectations for their age. They settle quickly in the setting and gradually grow in confidence. They learn how to cooperate with others and take turns. Children are motivated and keen to join in. They enjoy using their imagination as they pretend to be different characters. They enjoy learning about number, shape and measure through their daily activities and routines. This helps children to develop key skills in preparation for their future learning.
