This provision is good

 Since the last inspection, the childminder has completed first-aid training to meet requirements and knows how to manage any accidents children might have.  The childminder researches online to help her develop her professional skills and to find interesting and engaging activities for children.  The childminder communicates well with babies who are learning to talk. For example, she uses repetition and speaks in short sentences during play to help them learn good communication skills.  Babies receive good emotional support and care. The childminder is attentive to their needs. For example, she follows their interests and shows them affection, to help them feel secure and develop a strong relationship with her.  Children make good progress from their starting points. They are well prepared for their next stage of learning, including starting nursery.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although the childminder reviews some aspects of her practice, she does not focus this well enough to identify key areas to improve, or gain parents' and children's feedback to help her develop her practice further.  The childminder does not make the best use of all opportunities to help children to develop their independence further during their play and daily routines so they learn to do things for themselves.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 improve the self-evaluation process to review strengths and areas of practice to develop more precisely, and include the views and suggestions from parents and children  make better use of opportunities to consistently help children to develop their independence in their play and meeting their care needs.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder and children playing together.  The inspector and the childminder participated in a joint observation.  The inspector reviewed a sample of documentation.  The inspector spoke to the childminder at convenient times during the inspection about her knowledge of the early years foundation stage and her teaching.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps herself updated with all safeguarding knowledge. She attends training and completes online research. She has a secure understanding of how to identify and report any child protection concerns. This helps her to protect children's welfare and keep them safe from harm. The childminder develops good partnerships with parents. For example, she gives parents daily feedback on their children's activities and achievements.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows the children well. For example, she provides babies with a wide variety of resources that interests them to encourage them to participate and develop their concentration. She reads babies stories to help them learn to listen and develop an enjoyment of reading. For example, she sits close to them in a cosy area of the playroom, encouraging them to look at the pictures while she reads the story. This supports their early literacy development. The childminder observes and assesses children's progress well, to accurately identify their next steps and plan suitably challenging activities.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder helps babies learn how to behave well. For example, she helps them learn to be gentle to their friends and shows them how to be sympathetic when their friends are hurt. The childminder takes children on outings to playgroups, markets and the library. This helps children to learn to socialise with others, use a wider variety of resources and build their confidence in new environments, promoting their physical and emotional well- being. The childminder has a good settling-in process. This helps her to get to know the whole family so that she can better support each child when they first start with her.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Babies feel safe, secure and happy in the childminder's care. For example, they crawl around the play area, exploring and engaging with activities freely, and respond confidently to visitors in the setting. They use gestures and babbling or sounds to communicate their feelings and needs. For example, when visitors leave, they wave goodbye. Babies learn to use their emerging physical skills assertively to press buttons on toys, pull themselves up to stand and dance while sitting on the floor listening to music.
